High grade partial tear ucl and common flexor tendon what does this mean?

High grade partial tear ucl and common flexor tendon what does this mean?

Thumb or Elbow?: The ulnar collateral ligament (ucl) is a primary stabilizer to one of your thumb joints. It provides stability to the thumb when you pinch something between your thumb and index finger. It is injured when the thumb is bent backwards and outwards. It is unlikely that you injured the actual flexor tendon to the thumb but rather the insertion of some thumb muscles that attach near the ucl. ...Read more

Is it normal to have altered sensation after a flexor tendon repair injury?

Maybe: With cuts deep enough to cut the tendon, one or both of the nerves in the finger could be cut or "bruised". If it felt normal after the injury, but before surgery, the feeling could be from swelling. ...Read more

Think i hurt my flexor tendon again, how can I heal it?

Think i hurt my flexor tendon again, how can I heal it?

Buddy tape: Without seeing how bad your injury is, hard to say for sure. If you have avulsed the distal attachment to the finger bone (jersey finger), this needs to be seen by a surgeon, possibly hand specialist for opertive repair. You would have lost your ability to flex the finger at the tip. If it is still attached but just strained and has full function then you could buddy tape it for a few weeks. ...Read more

What can cause a fluid filled flexor tendon and what are some treatments? Recovery times?

What can cause a fluid filled flexor tendon and what are some treatments? Recovery times?

Tendinitis: How do you know the tendon is "fluid filled"? A tendinitis can have some swelling around the tendon that can be seen on ultrasound or mri. If there is a tear in the tendon this can happen too. Treatment would be nsaids and physical therapy first, followed possibly by a cortisone injection. If there is a tear it may need surgical repair. ...Read more

How quickly can a tendon scar after two flexor tendon surgeries?

How quickly can a tendon scar after two flexor tendon surgeries?

Immediately: Not exactly sure what you are asking but scar tissue forms fairly soon after any type of surgery. I am guessing you are concerned moreso with scar tissue that can be a problem after the surgery. Typically after flexor tendon surgery esp a 2nd one, you should be attending dedicated hand therapy which will help regain your motion and function safely, and limit the deleterious effects of scar tissu. ...Read more

Im a professional pitcher and I have a tear in my common flexor tendon of my throwing arm. Where is that located and how do I rehab that?

Tear: The tear is usually located near the elbow. You need to initially rest the elbow, avoid throwing, use an anti-inflammatory drug. Then start a graduated strength and throwing program if the pain is better. An MRI is needed for full diagnoses and guidance by a sports medicine specialist for treatment. ...Read more

Jersey fng/fract distal phalanx. Barely able to bend DIP after injury. Ortho said just stiff, but after 1 wk, still cant. Possible torn flexor tendon?

Jersey fng/fract distal phalanx. Barely able to bend DIP after injury. Ortho said just stiff, but after 1 wk, still cant. Possible torn flexor tendon?

Jersey finger: Jersey finger is, by definition, injury to the flexor tendon attachment to the distal phalanx of the finger. If you are unable to flex the end joint of the finger at all, there may be a complete tendon tear, possibly requiring surgery. If there is a partial tear, a period of immobilization might be effective to get the tendon to heal. See http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00015 ...Read more
