Generally none, but: If one's head shape is so unusual that other people are often staring at it, or are often looking away to avoid staring at it, then one can contact the Craniofacial Surgery department at the nearest major medical center to see if surgery can be done to make the head shape less unusual. A normal head with a flat spot is not considered bad enough to cut the skull and move things around.

Plagiocephaly: Pediatric physical therapists can help with stretching and things. Your pediatrician can refer you for this for a child. Helmets can be worn to help some, too.
This may be genetic: Your physician can help clarify if this is genetic. By that I mean it can run in families. There are famous people like the football player Kevin Singletary who had a flat head and this runs in his family.
Different positions: Change position in car seat, crib and bed. Tummy time when child awake is very important
Tummy time...: In order to avoid flat head due to constant laying on back it is recommended to give tummy time to the baby while you are watching few times a day for a few minutes. Make sure you are closely supervising the baby and don't leave him (her) alone while the baby is on his (her) abdomen. When leaving the baby alone in his (her)crib ALWAYS put the baby to lay on back.
No: However, one can talk with his primary care doctor to see how bad the problem is. Almost always, the problem is cosmetic and has no effect on brain, head, or neck functioning. If a head is severely misshapen, such as in cases of uncorrected birth defects, or uncorrected skull trauma from the past, one can check with a craniofacial team at a major medical center.
Rotate Baby: Discuss with pediatrician, but the best way to avoid this is to not let the baby sleep on its back all the time. Once swaddled you can rotate baby from side to side to minimize the flat head.

My 4 month daughter has 'flat head' syndrome. Will her head get rounded out on its own as she gets older and grows and is this a serious or concerning?
Will change: The infant skull has 17 growth centers that push away from each other as the skull enlarges. In infants, gravity pushes the face down in sleep & flattens the back, while tummy time or upright feeding cancels the effect. By 6-9 mo, they sit & sleep less, the head improves. If the flattening is much to one side, consult the doc for exercises to lessen the effect. Rarely a shaping helmet is appropriate.See 1 more doctor answer
I am very concerned about my baby's flat head syndrome. I am doing everything I can but I'm still worried her head will stay like that. Please give me?
My son has flat head on his left side. He doesn't have any facial deformities. How are you certain it will cure itself? He is 10 months old.
Cranial Deformity: Although cranial molding can be done very successful in children, adults with non growing brains do not respond well to cranium passive contouring. The only way to truly remodel the cranium is to physically reshape the skull. The main question to ask yourself is if the flatness is truly worth the risks of surgical correction. Consult a cranialfacial surgeon and a hairstylist.

Plagiocephaly: First your child should be evaluated and the need for therapy should assessed by a Pediatric Neurosurgeon. Some types of skull deformity may require surgery. Others may respond to helmet therapy. The type of treatment needed if any can only be determined after X-rays and evaluation by a neurosurgeon.
Life long asthmatic, usually after treatment body goes back to normal for me, pressure & pain in head has not subsided, I fear sudden death syndrome?
Be seen: Be seen by your doc as soon as possible. Maybe you have a sinus infection...but the fact that you are not bouncing back indicates you should be seen. I also suggest for more long term improvement see and acupuncturist /Chinese medicine doctor. It can help balance your body and improve your life long asthma condition over time. 5 mo old baby has 2 different ears, one is flat against his head, other is slightly bigger and sticks out, Is it likely the sticking out ear will become less prominent or harden closer to the head? Cartilage still very soft, any treatment options?
Depends: This is not unusual and the treatment if any depends on the degree of difference. Kids most often come out this way do to the way they are positioned in the womb, or gradually develop it due to sleep position. In the US, plastic surgeons may treat with a variety of inserts positioned within and around the ear or ears. You might check with your doc first to see if won't improve on its own.See 1 more doctor answer
From lying on it...: Usually, whichever side is down will flatten under the weight of the rest of the head. This does not in any way affect the content of the head (brain), and the cosmetic effect is mitigated once the hair grows out. After that, the head reshapes itself into its proper shape.See 3 more doctor answers
