Soda to a 5mo old: Don't worry, there won't be any lasting harm if it was just a one time thing. They'll be a little gassy and burpy, but that's it. I probably don't even have to say it, but soda is not a good idea for any baby (and the same goes for toddlers and kids). At 5mo old their endocrine systems are still developing and the effects of that much sugar and caffeine are not good. The same goes for juice! ...Read more

Five month old stooling four times a day. He is at 60% for weight and 90% for height, no apparent weight problems. Could this be malabsorption?
May be normal: If your baby is breastfeeding, four stools daily is entirely normal. If on formula, this may still be normal. If the stools are odorous and loose, it may suggest a lactose intolerance if he/she is on a dairy-based formula, however. In any case it does not sound like malabsorption as his growth is entirely appropriate at this time. Do talk to your doctor about your concerns. ...Read more
my five month old daughter all the time "downpour". Every now and then she burps with what she consumed. What can it be caused with?
Let me rephrase my five month old does not seem interested in trying baby foods purees not solids sorry..What age should they start to be interested?
Too early: Babies do not need solids in the first year.Formula or breast milk are total nutrition. As a culture, we generally begin offering solids as a puree as soon as they sit up,which is about the time their tongue thrust fades. Six months is the earliest I start and I let the kid decide when they are ready. You may offer an item a dozen times before they decide to try it. Be patient. ...Read more
Varies: Baby food will usually alter the stooling pattern based on the items involved. Some items;applesauce, rice cerreal, bananas tend to slow baby down while peaches, pears, prunes speed them up. If baby is skipping days a reduction in the volume of the solids can increase stooling. Solids this young are meant to teach baby to handle solid foods, not replace the nutrition in breast of formula. ...Read more

Started giving my five month old some water and finely blended pawpaw once a day, hasn't pooped in 2 days ? Is that the cause?
Continue Observation: Papaya (paw paw), is a nutritious fruit. Unknown if baby is breast or bottle fed. Normal babies can go a few days without stools. If baby is comfortable, good appetite, normal growth/development, normal well baby exams, then no action is needed. Paw paw is safe as you are using it. See your doctor if no stool after 3 more days or if baby shows increasing discomfort. Start solid foods at 6 mos. ...Read more
My five month old only will eat when he drowsy or sleep he has been on reflux medication for awhile and he doesn't have big appetite what could it be?
Normal feeding?: You mention reflux medication and i see on the profile "hydrochlorothiazide." i assume that's your medication and not your baby's. If he is breastfeeding or formula feeding well and is gaining weight, then there is no concern. I was not clear from your question if you meant he was not having a big appetite for solids or for his milk? ...Read more
Nothing: Breast feeding mothers frequently miss periods during the interim. It is nature's way to prevent a new pregnancy too close to the baby who needs your full attention. Once your breast feeding schedule lightens up, your periods will come back. Regardless, you should continue to practice safe sex to avoid pregnancy during this period. ...Read more
No.: Diluting the formula with juice or extra water may result in your baby not getting the nutrients important for brain and body growth. I would suggest trying a different formula or talking to your pediatrician. Your baby is growing very rapidly now, so proper nutrition is important. Apple juice is mostly sugar water. ...Read more
