29 yr old female with gerd. Now has loose, infrequent (2-3 days) yellowish brown colour stool with incomplete evacuation bloat, gas, odor. Any causes?
Many possibilities: This is unlikely to have anything to do with your gerd unless you are being treated for helicobacter pylori with antibiotics (which may touch off things like cl. Diff colitis). This may be viral, or giardia (an amoeba), or bacterial, or rarely may signal onset of inflammatory bowel disease. If it does not get better quickly (24-48 hrs) please see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more

Normal variation: The color of poo is derived from the waste pigment that end up in the bile, which is added to the intestines from the liver. It starts out an intense green & over time may change thru yellow to brown. The germs of the intestine convert the pigment as it transits the digestive tract. The less germ action the less color change.Loose stools are often a greenish color for this reason. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Baby poop: can be many different colors naturally and this is not usually a sign of any problem. In breastfed babies anything that the mother consumes can affect the baby's poop. As long as your baby otherwise appears well, and is well hydrated, this is not usually a reason for concern. Signs of dehydration in a baby as illustrated, are reason for medical attention. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 6 month old daughter has foul odor coming from her urine.... Her vagina also smells fishy. The urine smells like ammonia.. She only drinks milk?
Possible UTI: This is frequently the only symptom of a urinary infection in babies so you need to get a urinalysis done. Her pediatrician or her/his nurse can apply a urine bag. Will need a catheterized or supra-pubic specimen for culture if positive. On the other hand, but less likely, smell might be from uninfected urine or vagina if she inadvertently pushed a little stool or something else up her vagina. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Poop is fine/?vomit: Yellow seedy poop would be declared "normal" baby poop/stool. No need to fret. Vomiting can still be a normal infant phenomena due to mild reflux. Check with your doctor to ensure the weight/growth is progressing in a normal fashion. Overfeeding with too large of a volume at one time may be the issue. Smaller amounts over a shorter period of time may help. Upright positioning after meals. ...Read more
Green Bowel Movement: Green bowel movements are usually due to rapid transit times and bile therefore being present in the stool. At this age it is most likely due to something the bay ate. I'm assuming you have started various solids. Red flags are bloody stools, black stools or lots of mucous. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Why does my 13 month old vomit curdled milk about every other day lately and have small hard marble size stools? could she have an allergy to cows milk?
Vomiting isn't norml: Vomiting every day, or every other day, isn't normal. Is she only vomiting on days she drinks milk? That is a c lue. In general, milk is too good a source of nutrition to eliminate. Start with a diary of diet and vomiting for 5 days. And stool habits. Increase water intake and fiber. I would also want to know if your child is growing and gaining weight appropriately. ...Read more
My 13 month old passed two dark grey stools today. He is acting fine, good appetite, no fever. He takes an iron supplements per his pediatrician.
Close Monitoring: Stool color can vary greatly based on dietary composition. Iron supplements can cause stools to darken in color. Your child's past medical history is important to know but was not given here. Since only 2 atypical stools noted and child doing well, should closely monitor child/stools. If new symptoms appear, see doctor ASAP. Otherwise, discuss with doctor in 2 wks if color change persists. ...Read more
13 month old son has been constipated since birth. Taking miralax (polyethylene glycol). Stools are soft but hard to pass. He screams in pain, cries & grunts when pooping.
Needs specialist: If the stools are soft and your son is still crying in pain with bowel movements, a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist (specialist in stomach and bowel problems) is in order. It is possible that there is an anatomical problem which is interfering with normal stooling. Ask your primary doctor if a referral is needed. ...Read more
Yes - and no: From an allergy standpoint, it's ok to give peanut containing things after a year of age. However, that being said, if you spread the peanut butter thick on bread and they take a big bite, the consistency of a big glop of peanut butter could be a choking hazard. If you are spreading it very thin on a cracker, etc, and are watching carefully as they eat small bites, you should be ok. ...Read more

Depends: Some vials would fill with 5 cc or more and some with 1 cc. Some "crickets" fill with a fraction of a cc. The average 13 mo would have an estimated blood volume of 650-700 cc, so filling the big tubes would take 4% of her blood, which i would consider a lot but necessary in rare circumstances.. The smaller tubes would be less than 1%(not important). Much depends on the reason for the draw. ...Read more
