First Outbreak Of Herpes After Exposure
There are different types of herpes infections; herpes simplex infection of mouth (gingivostomatitis) and lips (labialis) are the most common. Others include genital herpes, and herpes zoster. Can a genital herpes outbreak take the form of shingles on the cheek? The first outbreak years ago was bc of HSV 1, no test done this time.
Different viruses: The cause of shingles is the varicella-zoster virus. You first get chicken pox, the virus then sets up residence in the nerves in your body and comes out later in life as shingles, generally in a single nerve root distribution. It only involves one side. Genital herpes can occur with hsv 1 or 2, although more commonly type 2. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can the first outbreak of herpes simplex 2 always appear with in the first month of contracting it?
Is a HSV igm & igg blood test helpful after g herpes exposure 6+months ago? No genital outbreak, other symptoms, but have had mouth cold sores before.
Probably yes: The HSV IgG tests are excellent, and a negative result for HSV2 6+ months after exposure shows you were not infected. The HSV1 result should have been positive if your diagnosis of past cold sores is correct, but once in a while the test misses HSV1 (but rarely HSV2). The IgM result doesn't help one way or the other -- it's inherently unreliable anyway, never done by herpes or STD experts. ...Read more

Partner has cold sore and sex occurs (no oral-genital contact) is risk of genital herpes? Transfer from hands possible? How long until symptoms occur?
Herpes New Info: The way you are wording this question is almost impossible to interpret. First all sexually active adults must have a blood test to see what their herpes exposure history is. The place of the sores do not count anymore. There is no transmission of herpes from one part of one's body to another. Hsv 1 is very common and hsv 2 i much less common. Get the blood tests and then we can solve this. ...Read more

Attack rate: The acquisition of strep after exposure varies considerably with the time of year and intimacy of exposure. For some reason winter supports higher transfer rates (up to 1/4) while summer sees a falloff (1/32). Kissing someone with the disease would more likely cause a problem than being in the same room. Some can acquire the germ without getting sick. ...Read more

Possible: Genital herpes can cause oral infection and oral herpes can cause genital infections even when no eruptions are present although transmission of the virus is much more likely during breakouts. 20% of all adults are infected with genital herpes and up to 80% of adults are infected with oral herpes and the virus can be transmitted even when there are no symptoms or lesions present. ...Read more
