Its possible: Rough, thick skin on the finger tips with cracks and discoloration can be related to repeated exposure to chemicals/dry environment. This can also be seen is polymyositis and dermatomyositis which are autoimmune diseases involving primarily the muscles and skin respectively.

Simply stop doing it: It would not cause serious problem. But you'd better cover it with bandaid to let it regrow. I assume it did not cause bleeding yet.

Uncertain: How was it cut? What thickness of skin was cut - depth? What part of the finger was cut? Are there any medical conditions which might impact healing (such as diabetes mellitus)?

Moisterise and soa: Soak hand in warm --hot olive oil for 10 minutes and then in nice hot wax. Put cotton socks on hands at night with good moisturizing cream. Massage hand and good skin vitamin would help donot pick on skin.

Excess dryness: Excess dryness can be caused from over exposure to water, chemicals, a drug reaction, or peeling after having a high fever. Is there reddness? This can also be hand eczema or psoriasis.

Need more info: Interesting problem. May be due to transfer of color from a book or magazine or other object. I think at your age the next time this coloration appears see your primary care physician.

Theky are painful: Wear gloves if possible, most factories have large lenses to get those metal slivers out. You need to do this because the pain will continue until you do. Again, wear gloves if possible but definitely get the splinters out.

2nd degree burn: May cause some pink scar formation. The brown skin is called eschar and is usually a sign of healing; however, scar formation may be lighter or darker than surrounding skin.

Dehydration?: Like when you are in the water for too long? Think dehydration. Increase you water intake if you think that could be a reason, and use some oily moisturizers in your hand. If the condition persists, see your doctor.

Good Skin Hygiene: Avoid long hot showers, frequent hand washing, and harsh and drying cleansers like Ivory, Irish Spring, or Lever 2000. Apply fragrance-free moisturizer like Vanicream or Aquaphor at least two times per day. Reduce itch with OTC antihistamines like Zyrtec. For break-through itch, oral Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and/or Sarna lotion can be added. Irritating environmental factors should be avoided.
