Finger Numbness: Isolated numbness in the middle finger without any mention of pain may be related to compression of the digital nerve. Even then there is a nerve on both sides of the finger and it is hard to explain unless you are wearing a ring that is too tight. Sometimes this numbness can occur from a disc herniation at c6-7 but not without radiating pain down the arm. Read more

When I wake up my entire arm is in a pretty bad pain while feeling kind of numb and my finger tips feel tingly. What could be the reason?

It depends: Often an arm that is in pain with numbness and tingling after awakening meant that you slept on it, causing a decrease in blood flow and/or a compression of one of the nerves in the arm. If this is the case, it should resolve on its own. However, with your history of diabetes, this could be neuropathic pain if your diabetes is not well controlled. A visit with your doctor may be needed. Read more

Carpal tunnel?: Consider carpal tunnel syndrome. This causes the tips of the thumb, forefinger, middle finger and sometimes part of the fourth or ring finger to feel numbness or tingling. It may feel worse with typing, writing, sleeping or driving.

Can my ganglion cyst on my finger be the reason that my wrist feels numb?

Can my ganglion cyst on my finger be the reason that my wrist feels numb?

Not likely: It is rare for a problem in the finger to cause symptoms in the wrist. Ganglion cysts in the finger are usually due to arthritis in the joints, especially the distal interphalengeal joint (dip or last knuckle). More likely you have carpal tunnel syndrome (cts) or cervical radiculopathy (herniated disk in the neck). See a board certified orthopaedic hand surgeon. Read more

Ulnar parasthesias: 40's female with numbness in 4-5 fingers while sleeping on back using a pillow has impingement of the ulna nerve tract. If on only one side could be neck, but thoracic outlet syndrome is another consideration if there is an associated aching in the shoulder region. A physiatrist type of doctor can discern. Read more
