Finger Foods Babies
4 months: Solids usually start at 4 months old. Either start with first stage baby food - fruits or veges. Some babies prefer one over the other.Just remember, introduce one new food either a fruit or a vegetable, every 4 to 7 days to observe for possible allergic reactions. ...Read more
4-6 months of age: Generally we prefer to wait until the infant is older before starting solids. Everything they need nutritionally is in breast milk or formula. When starting, begin with baby cereal and then move onto green/yellow veges. Avoid fruits for awhile as the tastebuds of an infant are very keen on sweets. Fruit intro before veges may lead to the child resisting the veges. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: While the old answer, " if he can chew it,he can eat it" still holds true, the baby food industry has made it much easier to provide different foods for the babies. The only caution to be exercised is to introduce only one new food at a time in a week to watch fir any allergic reaction which should be noted and discussed with your pediatrician at his next appointment. ...Read more
My baby will eat all kinds of finger foods, but he won't eat baby cereal. Will he be missing some nutrients?
Around 6 months: Short answer: when an infant has enough upper body control to indicate hunger and satiety, has doubled his birth weight, & can push the food from the spoon to his throat. However, the american academy of pediatrics recommends breastfeeding as the sole source of nutrition till about 6 months & continuing till 12 months. See "nutrition:what every parent needs to know" on www.Aap.Org. ...Read more
Not necessary early: During the 50's & 60's when moms made their own cow milk based formula, it was important to feed solids to make up for the deficiencies of cow milk.Today the breast or commercial formula fed babies need no solids the first year. We have a need to teach them the different skills needed to feed solids & most are ready @ 6m when they start sitting with assistance. This is a good time to start. ...Read more
Dementia pt on pureed food but now can eat regular food. But can not eat fresh fruit unless pureed and thickened. why?
He ate whole canned fruit.
Difficulty w/ swallo: Somebody must have thought the person your concerned about has difficulty with chewing and or swallowing his food. Then he might get food into his lungs and get an aspiration pneumonia. So he is being fed like a child. I don't know if he has dentures yet but that would be another consideration in feeding issues. Reminds of the old riddle: what walks on 4 ft, then 2 ft, then 3 ft. ...Read more
Different strokes..: There are foods that tend to be more allergenic, but for any individual infant, the rules may not hold true. That's why you introduce foods one at a time, and watch and see if any type of reaction. But in general, seafood, nut containing foods, citrus and eggs and egg containing foods have more potentials towards allergies and should be introduced later rather than sooner. ...Read more
6 months: Years ago, breastfeading was frowned on & many made "formula" from boiled cow milk&karo. Since cow milk is designed for calves, infants were fed early & often to make up for deficiences in cow milk. Now that breast is back, or formulas mimic breast, solids are optional. The sitting child is more capable of participating & few sit before 6m. Babies can wait past a year and thrive. ...Read more
6 months old baby started eating organic made baby food. Now is constipated.she's had sweet potatoes, banana, Apple's, peas, squash, zucchini. ?
Why the rush: Solids in the first year do not help the baby grow better.Breast milk is an adequate nutrition source, and solids today are primarily a training process to transition them to the table. Apples and bananas are constipating agents. Prunes & pears loosen stools. I'd quit the rush through the list of foods and just keep it simple. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

See below: Spoiling has consequences that go beyond the immediate trouble of managing an unruly, spoiled child. It sets up patterns that can last a lifetime. Spoiled kids have not learned to work for something that they really want. There is no work ethic- no lesson to really strive for something. They get what they want through manipulation, they develop a dysfunctional way of relating to people-parents. ...Read more
Depends: Most consider the yoke ok after 9 months and regular egg (scrambled, whites, whipped egg white like the meringue of a pie, etc.) ok after a year. There is apparent concern that early exposure of egg whites, especially in raw form, can lead to an egg allergy. Egg that is in products that have been changed by baking is not considered a problem. ...Read more
