Jammed finger in door- a hard lump on the top of my finger, my finger doesn't hurt whilst moving but does hurt when pressed.
Probably OK: If you can flex and extend all the joints in your finger, then all the tendons are intact. Not likely you broke anything, but if you are still concerned you would want to get an x-ray ...Read more

You should plan to have an x-ray in the next few days to make sure there are no fractures that will heal incorrectly. If there is obvious deformity = urgent care. ...Read more

Splint or buddy tape: Try splinting your injured finger or even buddy taping it. Then wrap it up so don't poke yourself while asleep. I have no connection to Walgreens but their ad popped up when I searched: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgreens-small-finger-splint/ID=prod3460871-product. You could also use popsicle sticks. If you slam your finger in a door and your nail falls off how long will it take till the new one grows?
Trauma: If you're lucky enough to still have some living matrix at the end of the finger, and most times this occurs you definitely are that lucky, the nail should grow back in a matter of many months. It just takes a long time because that nail, once established, only grows 2 mm a month on the fingers and 1 mm a month on the toes. ...Read more
