Swelling: Fifth metatarsal injuries are common. They are either fractures or tendon injuries. Both hurt when walking, tendon injuries are near the base of the metatarsal and radiate up to the ankle. Foot pain: Several things may cause foot pain, such as localized arthritis, a muscle sprain, a tendon sprain at that area, gout, etc. etc. Try rest and an NSAID like Ibuprofen, and see Podiatrist if it continues.
