Field Of Vision Test Results
Visual field test result normal - 3/14 fixation error. Some peripheral vision loss not in field of vision. Why does test result say normal?
Generally not: Visual field tests are used to assess optic nerve function, most commonly in glaucoma. They can be used to identify possible strokes as well. The only weak muscle that could be identified would be the upper eyelid muscle in ptosis, as this would show obstruction of the superior visual field. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Visual field testing will occasionally pickup small areas of visual field depressions if the floater is particularly large and thick, as some patients may have. Since they move, a repeat visual field should also show the depression to have moved. I would not however expect a large visual field abnormality from a floater and certainly l recommend an exam to rule out any problems by an eye md. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Two eye drs. Looking at visual field test result. One dr says it is normal & other says there's peripheral vision loss. Why the difference of opinion?
Interpretation: Interpretation of visual field change is somewhat subjective. As many as 5 cosequetive visual fields are necessary to show change over time. Peripheral changes can have a lot of "noise" in deciding whether or not it is real defect or not. Repetition of field testing and confirmation of defect over time is more accurate. Even then, there are many factors that can interfere in vf assessment. ...Read more
Normal field vision test. Dilated optic discs small w/slight asymmetry. Suspicious oct scan. Eye pressure 27. Family history. Suspect for glaucoma?
Is it possible to get accurate visual field test with macular pucker decline in visual acuity, lights less bright & white computer screen looking gray?
Usually it is fine: You have defects in the central visual portion of your field of view - an area poorly outlined by most field testing devices. Field tests will define major defects which largely will register from the peripheral areas tested. Have you had a field tested in the past? Is there some condition being sought for with a field.? Your ophthalmologist would not order a field if he doubts the result. ...Read more
In glaucoma annual exam I have Humphrey visual field test but not the Goldman test that measures wider field. Is it a good idea to have both tests?
Not an issue: Visual field tests are helpful in the early diagnosis of glaucoma. Disc evaluation is more useful in the middle phases and visual field becomes the only marker later when the disc is maximum. The Humphrey is standardized against the Goldmann and either test is useful when sequential tests are run. It does not usually matter which is done and some cannot do the Humphrey well. ...Read more

Versatile: The oct is a magnificent piece of equipment that is capable of many uses. It can be used in glaucoma to measure the size of the angle and to measure the thickness of the layer of tissue around the optic nerve. It is also useful in many different types of retinal disease. There are no side effects to the test itself, in some instances, your eye may have to be dilated to take it. ...Read more
No: Many insurance companies are not covering for only loss of visual field. (medicare requires loss of levator muscle (true ptosis) or not pay. There are many degrees of vf loss, some will cover upper lid surgery when vf loss is >30% measured by vf analysis. Insurance co are following medicare lead and are denying except for muscle functional loss. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
On average what percentage of optic nerve damage must there be in order to show a loss of peripheral vision on a field test?
Glaucoma rt. eye.Humphrey field test full within normal limits.DMV peripheral vision test 50 deg left & 70 deg right. Dr says DMV test wrong.Possible?
Depends: Most Humphrey testing is 30-50 degrees from the center simply because ones that measure farther out take too long a time and most glaucoma changes start in the center. The DMV tests check a couple of horizontal points about 60 degrees and 130 degrees out. So it depends upon which testing you went through. Hopefully, with a glaucoma diagnosis, you are seeing a real doctor - an ophthalmologist. ...Read more
What are the tests for detecting early onset glaucoma?Does retinal examination help?Iot:18 both eyes.Feel contrast loss at night.Doc said lent opacity
Testing: Glaucoma is not the most common cause of loss of contrast at night. Visual field or oct testing can be done to detect early glaucoma, but with normal pressures such as yours and a normal exam, i would not expect them to show glaucoma. Those tests are usually done in patients that show physical signs of possible glaucoma such as elevated pressures or cupping of the optic nerve. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hello, I have slightly higher intra- ocular pressure in both eyes and normal optic discs and no gross field defects .which hospital eye test suitabl?
Pachymetry ?: It sounds like you are being worked up for the possibility of glaucoma. You need also to know pachymetry, the thickness of the front of the eye which is a parameter involved in glaucoma diagnosis. All the needed tests are available in an ophthalmologists office; you do not need to go to a hospital. ...Read more
Hypertension and blindness in lateral visual fields of both eyes. The lab found elevated blood glucose and high gl. What does this mean in layman's terms?
Possible diabetes: High blood sugars (depending on the timing of when you last ate and how high the value was) most often indicate a pre-diabetic condition or diabetes. You should have yourself evaluated right away, particularly since you have eye disease. It may not be related to diabetes, but patients wtih diabetes are prone to different eye diseases.
