How often should an adult pass stool? I usually have 1 BM daily, sometimes I don't have at all throughout the day. Is it regular? I eat plenty fiber.
Normal stool freq: Normal stool frequency varies from several times a day to once every several days. What's most important is to determine what's normal for you. Eat plenty of fiber, upwards of 30+g/d depending upon reference, drink plenty of fluids & get regular exercise. As long as you don't have to strain to push out hard stool, you're most likely normal. 37 grams fiber daily: More fiber means more water retained in the stool, promoting easier passage, quicker transit and less exposure to environmental toxins (all good things!) remember to drink more water if you take a fiber supplement, but doing it "naturally" always helps, with a diet rich in fiber (fresh friuts, vegetables etc.). Thankfully fiber content is on all the labels of foods nowadays, so read the labels. ...Read more

Try Miralax (polyethylene glycol): Transit time through your colon must be very slow and your colon reabsorbs water making the stool firm and hard. Fiber may only bulk things up worse if you have slow transit time. Try miralax, (polyethylene glycol) over the counter, as it works by keeping water in the stool making it easier to move through and keeping the stools soft. ...Read more
23 yo female I have tenesmus for more than month. I eat food rich in fibers. My stool contains black things like sticks and very small white balls?
Not enough fiber?:
Often patients feel they are taking in enough fiber, but may not be getting the right type, amount, or mix of the above. Consider taking a psyllium husk supplement such as Konsyl or Metamuci (generic available). If this still is causing trouble, consider seeing a GI doc or Colorectal Surgeon.
Sitting in a warm bath tub can help relax this sensation at times. Meditation and yoga can also help. ...Read more

Yes, possibly...: Or you don't drink enough water. The antihistamine you are on could contribute also. Constipation is something that can cause many problems down the road--diverticulitis, bowel perforation. Best to always have a goal to never poop rocks or pebbles! I like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) because it is safe (draws water into the colon), doesn't taste like anything (mix in any fluid), and doesn't cause rebound constipation. ...Read more

Do u want firmer or looser stools for BM not to get stuck in a rectocele? Seems the more fiber and water makes the BM too big around and gets stuck
You want a soft BM:
It may have to be slightly loose to accommodate the rectocele.
You can help by pushing up on the skin between the anus and the vagina. Another maneuver that helps is inserting 2 or more fingers into the vagina and pushing back toward the spine and rectum to keep the rectocele from getting filled.
Adding glycolax (generic Miralax) helps to keep the stool loose. ...Read more
Male, 22 years old. I've had bloody stools for years already gotten a colonoscopy done, came back normal? Eating a lot of fiber & it's not working!?
Hemorrhoids Likely: Blood which looks like bight red blood is usually bleeding from hemorrhoids (dilated veins connecting colon veins to skin veins), either internal or external to anal sphincter. Sometimes GI examiners, in a rush to look for issues higher up, miss some of these. Additionally, a colonoscope is not necessarily the best way to examine. Both study & learn anatomy & look for physician worthy your trust. ...Read more
Can a lack of insoluble fiber in diet for almost 8 months cause thin stools? And is a mushy but still formed stool considered loose or normal stool?
When using the restroom, there was a long bright red streak on the stool. I've had hemmies for a while. I don't drink much water/eat fiber. Hurts. Help?
Hemi?: I think what you're referring to are hemorrhoids which are nothing more than prolapsed veins. Which does occur often in the low fiber diet. Simple measures to increase your fiber such as over-the-counter preparations or even just increasing vegetables and fruits. However, it can also be a warning sign of underlying problems. Always check in with your healthcare provider. ...Read more

I sometimes have what looks like a white thread in my stool, sometimes I only see 1 or a few, once I saw many. I don't know if it's fibers or pinworm?
Likely not: As an adult, you acquire pin worms by ingesting the eggs when they get on your hands caring for in infected toddler. The worm lays its eggs around the anal opening and the glue like material that holds the eggs produces a skin reaction/itching. Most adults pass thread like debris as byproducts of veritable intake, since humans do not digest some of the cellulose that accompanies these foods. ...Read more
