Cervical Spine: might be the reason for your pain... It is rare to have something associated with a fracture suddenly after so much time. Your symptoms sound like radiculopathy, possibly coming from the lower cervical spine, and it can make an old wound in the trajectory hurt worse... but that is not likely the source of your new pain. Can you have flu with no fever.I came down with extreme chills, no fever..Then developed runny nose, sinus stuff, shoulder blade ache, lastly congestion.
Woke up with pain in right index finger most proximal knuckle. No injury. Hurts to bend finger,warmth and swelling but not much. Hairline fx? 2 days.
Get checked: In an otherwise healthy 20 year old, infection of the joint is high on the probability list. Was there a trauma? Without injury, fx far less likely. Possible viral inf: Sounds like what happens when you get a viral infection. So long as no fever or neurological signs of problems, no lessening of mental status or function, etc. then, conservative treatment and steady as she goes.....hydration (water best), you can certainly do an anti-inflammatory such as Motrin or Naprosyn...or if you prefer smething like a couple of ES Tylenol (acetaminophen) per label instructions, REST... ...Read more

Arthritis of thumb?: Can't be for sure what you have, but possibly some arthritis at the base of the thumb, especially if you use your hand/thumb a lot etc... If symptom has been ongoing and worsening for awhile, this is likely. If symptom comes on rather fast over couple of days, it could be gout--this can be very painful. Motrin/aleve may help. U may have some arth: U may very well have some minor arthritis in ur neck & tspine. Coughing is quite violent if severe and increased intradickal pressures rise, as well as some flex/ext 2 these areas also. If it goes away when ur cough stops no worry. Phlebitis: What you are describing sounds like superficial phlebitis- which is inflammation( swelling) of a vein which is close to the skin surface. We treat these with warm compresses and elevation of that extremity. The swelling can take anywhere from a few days up to a week or so to resolve.
