Toddler falls when to worry?

Toddler falls when to worry?

Toddler falls often: Toddlers often run without fear or thought and fall. I would worry if yours falls when walking normally, or with an abnormal stance when running or appears to be unsteady when standing. I would not worry if the falls are associated with running without fear and then tripping by chance. If worried, have your doc check the legs and running in the docs office. ...Read more

8mth old baby is teething, not really wanting to eat, refuses bottle sometimes &fussy, and seems to want to sleep more? No fever, should I be worried?

No, but you should: have your pediatrician check the baby out if it's lasted for more than a few days after (s)he developed the rash of Fifth Disease. The rash can last for weeks, but any sore throat, nausea or headache should start to subside once the rash appears. Teething as a cause for changes in behavior, feeding & sleeping is a diagnosis of exclusion. ...Read more

Do we need to head to the pediatrician if my 4 month old has a runny nose? She doesn't seem bothered by it, no fever, it is making it hard to bf.

Do we need to head to the pediatrician if my 4 month old has a runny nose? She doesn't seem bothered by it, no fever, it is making it hard to bf.

Not necessarily: Try saline drops in the nose, followed by suctioning, just before feeding. Babies can't blow their noses, and need to breathe through their nostrils during feeding. If runny nose is the only symptom, you're ok to treat at home. ...Read more

My son been very cranky lately ,I dk if it due to him teething but he usually sleep during the night now I have to hold him,his temp is increasing .

How high?: If he just has a low grade temp (less than 100.5 degrees F), and you think you see new teeth coming in, you can use over the counter teething gel, Tylenol, (acetaminophen) and watch him for a few days. But if his temp is higher than that, he may have an ear infection or other illness that needs treatment and you should have him examined. ...Read more

Take a breath: For most healthy children, I consider 101 to be a fever. For tiny or sick babies it's different. Take a breath and immediately take a good look at your son. Is he breathing usually/comfortably? Is he drinking fluids and having wet diapers? Fever is a defense mechanism which helps your body fight infections by making it less hospitable. Tylenol (acetaminophen) can lower fever, but isn't always needed. ...Read more

Is it normal for a toddlers fever to go from 99 to 96 overnight? Her forehead felt cold and clamy, she otherwise said she felt ok. Her normal temp 98

Is it normal for a toddlers fever to go from 99 to 96 overnight? Her forehead felt cold and clamy, she otherwise said she felt ok. Her normal temp 98

See Your Doctor Now: If you suspect child has fever, it is important to check a rectal temp which reflects core body temperature; cannot be assessed by feeling forehead. If your measurements are not taken rectally, they are unreliable in a child. Fever commonly fluctuates, skin can vacillate between hot & cold to touch. Fever means infection. Caution: children give limited cues to serious illness. See your doctor Now. ...Read more

My child has a mild fever and doesn't want to eat or drink anything. If she tries to eat she just throws it up. What should I do?

My child has a mild fever and doesn't want to eat or drink anything. If she tries to eat she just throws it up. What should I do?

Has to drink: Kids who don't feel well don't eat well. They make up for it the day they feel better, so don't worry about that. The drinking is more significant. A child who has fever, doesn't drink, and is vomiting is at risk for dehydration. Give small sips of liquid, maybe as small as a teaspoon, every few minutes. Even if he vomits, the body will absorb some. If it continues, see your doctor. ...Read more

What to do if toddler is lethargic but has no fever?

What to do if toddler is lethargic but has no fever?

Have him seen: True lethargy could be a sign of more than just infection. Severe head injury is just one thing that comes to mind. If he is truly lethargic, have him seen right away. Note, however, if he is walking around and talking to you, that is not lethargy. Listlessness, maybe, but not lethargy. ...Read more

4 yr. Old biting her arm and fingers at school when bored. Is it okay/normal? Teacher says when she keeps her busy she doesn't do it as much

Needs redirection: If your child is biting herself when bored or stressed, it is best to give her other activities to keep her busy. Gentle redirection can help, but don't make a big deal about it or it may become a power struggle. Sometimes, a substitute can be used- a stress ball or a "worry stone". If it continues to be a problem, check with a child therapist. ...Read more

After 6-9mo they realize how well u provide for their needs, yet their brain doesn't understand u can leave and return, by 18-24mo most begin to understand. You can soften your night ritual by reading to baby from a few ft away, then say nitenite and leave.
