What is the difference between a fever, a hot flash, and a night sweat?

What is the difference between a fever, a hot flash, and a night sweat?

Fever is illness: Fever typically means that your body is fighting an infection and is "heating up" to help your normal cells in the process. A night sweat is just a nocturnal occurrence of a a hot flush. This happens in women starting to undergo the menopausal transition. As estrogen levels fall/fluctuate with declining ovarian function, the brain centers that control body temperature go a bit haywire... ...Read more

Pain may be worse when you walk, cough, or make sudden movements. Later symptoms include - fever, chills, nausea. ...Read more

Hormone imbalance: Right ovarian pain might be a cyst. Ovarian cysts can result from hormone imbalances. If one has intercourse when the cervical mucous strings between the thumb and forefinger one has the best chance of getting pregnant. On and off fever (hot flashes), cough which passed (now only occasional), now sore throat, yesterday neck pain, today back pain. Is this serious?

Beginnings of virus: You may have the beginnings of an infection (possibly viral). The sore throat and stiff neck are things I always recommend be evaluated by physicians since you never know what exactly is up and what testing you may need. Take your temperature with a thermometer to document how much (if any) of a fever you have, start drinking plenty of fluids. Make sure your nutritional status is good ; get seen. ...Read more

Sharp lower right abdominal pain, fever, hot flashes, chills, nausea, vomiting, can't stand+walk straight. The pain is sudden and constant. Wha can this be?

Possibl appendicitis: I urge you to go to the er now and be evaluated. My biggest concern is that you have appendicitis and may need an operation urgently before it ruptures if it has not already done so. If you are to the point you can't stand/walk straight, you need to have evaluation tonight. Log off after you read this and get your parents to take you to the emergency room now! ...Read more

What's the difference between hot flashes and fever?

What's the difference between hot flashes and fever?

See below: Hot flashes: why am I getting them? What can I do about them? Is there a treatment? What causes them? All of those are great questions

Hot flashes are one of the most common symptoms of menopause. Although not limited to menopause. Menopause is when you have gone one year with no menstruation. People also get hot flashes in the Peri-menopause stage and even in the pre-menopause stage.

Hot flashes are caused by an imbalance between multiple hormones but especially estrogen and progesterone. The symptoms can occur several times a day. They are often associated with filling hot all over causing one to want to take off some of their clothing. There is a syndrome called estrogen dominance, which can explain this, further. But to simply put it there is an imbalance in the relationship between estrogen and progesterone, which can lead to multiple symptoms, hot flashes being one of them.

Other symptoms include things like irritability, anxiousness; night sweats painful intercourse, difficulty sleeping and many more.

We've been working with these types of symptoms daily in our practice over the last 18 years. And what we have found is we get great results with natural hormone therapy. We first do a questionnaire then we check their hormones with saliva testing. (More accurate than blood testing because it measures the free hormone with out any concern about the amount of hormone bound to protein.)

Once we have that information we identified what the hormone imbalance is and we simply replace what's deficient. This brings a balance between several hormones and in turn causes a relinquishing of many of the symptoms associated with menopause.

Thanks for your question.
The above is the simple answer the better answer is to work with a healthcare professional who has experiencing natural hormone therapy.

Is this hot flashes with no sweat? I'm 47 and today I suddenly feel very, very hot & there's a spike in my bp/heartbeat but no fever. Is this menopaus

Could be: Hot flashes are one of the first signs of the menopausal transition for many women. They are often but not always associated with sweating. They are actually referred to as hot flushes and you or others may notice that your face flushes when you have one. They are more common when you are stressed and are not associated with a fever. Many women say they feel like a furnace inside. Hope this helps. ...Read more

After I hit my head a few days after got a drip and keep getting hot flashes or fever like symptoms it gets hot and goes away doc t was sinus infect?

Knocked out?: How hard did you hit your head? Were you knocked out? Are you feeling dizzy or nauseated? The "drip" - is this from the nose, ears? If the head injury was fairly severe and you have any symptoms of concussion such as persistent headache, nausea, vomiting, dizziness or trouble thinking straight - see your doctor again. If it wasn't severe then yes, it could be a sinus infection. ...Read more
