Dr. Cornelia Franz answered:

Fever at night only with my toddler, what is it?

Don't know

Fever
Typically it is a viral illness...and I hope he is better now. But if it have him seen. A "standard" virus lasts 7-10 days but I lie to see children after 4-5 if fever has been persistent and not improving.

My 3 yr old daughter developed a painful cough & sore throat 4 days ago. Bloodshot eyes. High fever at night only. Is this the flu? Something else?

Cough

Cough
This could be the flu or another viral illness. It could also be a bacterial illness such as Strep Throat or even pneumonia. I recommend you consult with your doctor so the correct diagnosis can be made and the appropriate treatment plan implemented.

From last week onwards,I am having fever at night only and still goes on!my doctor told me I am having urinal infection and this causes the fever.

UTI

Nocturnal
I'm happy to hear that you have a diagnosis which can explain your fever. However, your doctor should also have given you an antibiotic to treat urinary tract infection. Also should figure out why/how you got infection as men are less prone to UTI than women. Kidney stone? Ureteral stenosis? Bladder or prostate issue? STD? Anal intercourse?

Seeing a doctor

Sounds like you have an infection for about 7 days and the best thing to do for your own health is to be examined by a doctor to find out the cause and recommend appropriate therapy.

It is very common for fever to be active at night. The real conundrum here is to find out the source of the fevers, and that should be done with consultation with your MD. Good luck!

Dr. Martin Raff answered:

What could be causing fever only at night?

Fever

Tuberculosis
Nocturnal fevers are often associated with tuberculosis, but you may be having fevers during the day at a lesser magnitude and not recognizing them because they are milder during the hours prior to the evening. This, if it persists, should definitely be uated by a doctor, and if at all possible would suggest your seeing an infectious diseases expert. Good luck.

Multiple things

Fever-adult
Fever at night can be caused by many things, including chronic infections, rheumatological entities (like lupus), and even malignancy (cancer). It is never normal, and it requires a comprehensive workup.
