Fever And Nose Bleeding In Children

Allergies: I hate to say it, but itching/sneezing/runny nose, provided you're not sick at the time with a viral infection, is usually the result of environmental or seasonal allergies. Even if you've never had them before, you can actually develop allergies at any age, though don't give up hope as you can lose them too. It's worth checking your environment; any new exposures that could account for this? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Depends on . . .: Babies ages 3-12 months can easily catch colds from other people. If there is just a runny nose, without much fussiness, without any high fever, without other worrisome symptoms, then parents can leave the nose alone. If the mucous is blocking the nose somewhat, try a few drops of saline, followed by gentle suctioning with a suction bulb. A doctor should examine younger or more symptomatic babies. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 14 year old son complains of headaches, nasal discharge with blood and mucus in throat with tinge of blood, some chest pain intermittently.
Workup mgt: His chest pain may be related to an infection given his sinus symptoms. I would suggest an evaluation. Treatment with antibiotics may be needed to treat both infections. Allergic disease and wheezing with bronchoconstriction is managed with nasal saline/medications, antihistamines and inhaled medications. A pulmonary function test is advised as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Atrophic rhinitis: Assuming that you are not using nasal steroid aimed at the center of the nose , Afrin -like nasal spray, or cocaine. the most likely cause is dryness . You may try a nasagel spray to keep the nose moist especially on dry and windy days. If problem persists, consult ENTor allergist to check for allergies, sinusitis etc. I also assume that you have no unusual amount of bruising. ...Read more
