Does gout cause a fever or headaches?

Possibly: While not all cases of gout cause fever and headaches, it is seen in some patients. I've been sick for 2 days now woth fever and headaches that won't go away. What should I take?

Fever & headache: As long as the fever is not high (persistently > 102), and if it has only been 2 days, I would just take Ibuprofen (otc), 3 tabs 3 times a day as this is probably a viral process that will go away by itself. I would wait up to a week for low-grade fever and mild to moderate headache to go away on its own. If the fever is high, or if the headache is unusually severe, you should see a doctor. ...Read more

What to do if you have a fever or headache more than 5 days? Fever is running around 101.5 and has not broke, headache is their most of the time.

Fevers: Fevers for the most part aren't dangerous and are just the body's natural reaction to fighting off an infection. Most of these infections are viral and may be accompanied by runny nose, sore throat, congestion, mild rash, or nothing at all. Since fevers aren't dangerous, we usually treat the fever with Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen just to make the patient more comfortable as their body fights the illness. However, a fever lasting 5 days is concerning and you should call your doctor for an appointment.

"red flags" that we look for with fever to indicate something more serious is going on are:
-fevers that last 5 days or more
-fevers persistently above 104f orally
-a person that acts very sick - very irritable or difficult to wake
-difficulty breathing
-vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to drink, or dehydration
-a purple rash, esp on the legs
-stiff neck
-any complaints of pain such as the ear, throat, stomach or a joint

as always, use your judgement. If you think that you are ill, err on the side of caution and call your doctor. ...Read more

Too soon for mono: Much too soon; the incubation period for mono is typically 4-6 weeks. But if you have had other intimate exposures in past 1-2 mo. With the person with mono (sex, kissing), you might have caught it from from him or her a few weeks ago. You could even be the source of that person's infection. Fighting a fever: Fever is part of the body's response to an infection or other "insult". Actually the body fights better when you have a fever although most doctors and nurses (especially) don't know that so they recommend paracetamol or other antipyretic. If you can "tough it out" it's better to have the fever- u will recover faster, but if uncomfortable u can take the medication to reduce fever. OK with psyllium ...Read more
