Trying to conceive: Hmmm . . . Not sure i understand your phrasing. Ovulation occurs 2wks prior to menses. So in actuality, you shouldn't "spot" when ovulating. Otoh you can "spot" when your egg implants. Sperm lasts a few days inside you. Egg obviously does, too. Depends: Depends on your diagnosis.
