If ferrous gluconate and ferrous fumarate make me short of breath should I try ferrous sulfate?

If ferrous gluconate and ferrous fumarate make me short of breath should I try ferrous sulfate?

Iron: I am not aware of shortness of breath as an adverse reaction to iron supplements. Shortness of breath may be caused by severe anemia though. You should discuss with your doctor before starting any other irons supplements if your reaction is truly related to these medications. ...Read more

Which is better for anemia? Ferrous sulfate or ferrous fumarate? I have low iron, ferrous sulfate hurts my stomach. Was wondering about fumarate.

Which is better for anemia? Ferrous sulfate or ferrous fumarate? I have low iron, ferrous sulfate hurts my stomach. Was wondering about fumarate.

Fumarate, gluconate: Iron tablets help in iron-deficiency anemia. Taking the tablets with food or after eating reduce the side effects of abdominal pain. Both fumarate and gluconate are reported to have less gastric irritations. Cost is a consideration. Thank you for asking. ...Read more

Among ferrous sulfate, gluconate and fumarate, is there any difference in absorbtion and tolerability?

Among ferrous sulfate, gluconate and fumarate, is there any difference in absorbtion and tolerability?

Yes: All these forms of iron have distinct characteristics that affect these areas. Though gluconate and fumarate are more tolerable than the sulfate, they provide a lower amount of absorbable iron. I feel that it is more important to be able to tolerate the form of iron you're taking than how much is absorbed especially if you have any stomach problems to begin with.
Good luck. ...Read more

Prescribed 210mg of Ferrous Fumarate. 1 3 times a day because my hemoglobin is 10, is this fine or to much?

Prescribed 210mg of Ferrous Fumarate. 1 3 times a day because my hemoglobin is 10, is this fine or to much?

Good dose of iron: This is a good dose for getting maximum benefit. It is essential that your body is low in Iron as shown on blood testing for Iron stores. Once your Hemoglobin (Hb) goes up, the dose of Iron pills can be reduced to 1 tab twice a day. But either dose is fine.
Send us your CBC results as we want to know what your MCV result is besides having a low Hb. ...Read more

I've just started ferrous fumarate as sulphate didn't suit me. I'm feeling quite poorly, my iron stores are 4 is that low?

I've just started ferrous fumarate as sulphate didn't suit me. I'm feeling quite poorly, my iron stores are 4 is that low?

It should help: The ferrous form of iron is usually the best absorbed. Some people tolerate ferrous fumarate or gluconate better than ferrous sulfate. GI side effects are usually the problem. I presume your ferritin level is 4 ng/ml, which is low suggesting iron deficiency and is the likely cause of feeling poorly. Hopefully you can tolerate the ferrous fumarate and resupply your body's iron. ...Read more

Can I take ferrous fumarate without consultation with a doctor?

No...: You should definitely consult your doctor and make sure that you have low iron stores in your body. Isit rare to be allergic to ferrous Fumarate? I have to take them for low hemoglobin. I have no known allergies

Isit rare to be allergic to ferrous Fumarate? I have to take them for low hemoglobin. I have no known allergies

Rare: But if you're still suspicious, take the first dose in the doctor's office or an ER waiting area, wait for an hour after, if everything is fine and no reaction, just move on, if any problem, then you are in the very place you want to be in this case. Severe reactions, if you're truly allergic, would appear in the first hour after exposure, good luck ...Read more

I take ferrous fumarate 300 (100) mg since 23 sept. 2013 once a day and I still feel fatigue. My blood iron level is 13. (12-300) what should I do?

I take ferrous fumarate 300 (100) mg since 23 sept. 2013 once a day and I still feel fatigue. My blood iron level is 13. (12-300) what should I do?

More iron: If another blood test called iron binding capacity is elevated, this would confirm that your body's iron level is deficient (most likely from menstrual blood loss) and that 1 iron tablet a day is not a high enough dose. Only a small percentage of an iron pill is absorbed and in true iron deficiency up to 3 doses a day are commonly needed to raise the blood level of iron. Your md will advise you. ...Read more

Ferritin, rbc, haematocrit, globin all normal but low serum iron, gp gave me ferrous fumarate, but im not anaemic?

More info needed!: Low iron level by itself does not always indicate iron deficiency. To interpret the results, we interpret it in conjunction with ferritin, TIBC and iron saturation. Low iron level can some times be seen if you have an inflammatory / infectious condition at the time of blood draw. It is very unusual to have iron deficiency in a young man as it is usually seen in young females due to menstruation. ...Read more
