Mom confused: Confusion after general anesthesia is not uncommon in elderly patients. The changes can be short lived or last for days. Much depends on previous history of dementia or alzheimer's. Also, sedatives given before surgery or pain medicines given after can cause confusion. Dexamethasome can cause confusion as well. Stopping: These meds cold could give you a rough ride. I would talk to your doctor or if you are not comfortable with him find another doctor to help you wean off the meds. The higher doses and the longer you were on the meds. All lead to a more severe withdraw. Nausea, vomiting, abd pain, anxiety etc just to name a few symptoms. But explain what you want to do.
