Can you ease tell me what a fentanyl patch is?

Can you ease tell me what a fentanyl patch is?

For chronic pain: Fentanyl transdermal patch is used in chronic pain management. The patches work by releasing fentanyl into body fats, which then slowly release the drug into the bloodstream over 48 to 72 hours, allowing for long-lasting relief from pain. The patches are available in generic form and are available for lower costs. Dosage is based on the size of the patch, since the t.

Should doctors prescribe sleepinal, fentanyl and amitriptyline to one person at the same time?

No.: There is an additive or even synergstic effect with these medications. Caution should be used when any meds are combined that are prescribed to do the same thing.

Why fentanyl would be prescribed for less than excruciating pain?

Level 10 pain: Not relieved with oral combinations and long acting opioids is the usual reason for the patch, but adverse affects with the other products (obstipation/consitpation, nausea and vomiting at even low dose) could be a reason. The golden rule is to use as low dose and start with uncontrolled and go up until pain is conrolled. Fentanyl is also expensive.

I have severe adenomyosis, endo and pcos. I use fentanyl patch and oxy for pain management. Is hysterectomy mybest treatment option?

Probably: If you have completed your family a hysterectomy with removal of the tube and ovaries would offer about a 95% chance of being pain free and would eliminate your need for the narcotics.

Mom confused: Confusion after general anesthesia is not uncommon in elderly patients. The changes can be short lived or last for days. Much depends on previous history of dementia or alzheimer's. Also, sedatives given before surgery or pain medicines given after can cause confusion. Dexamethasome can cause confusion as well. Be aware that uncontrolled pain can cause some elderly patients to be confused.

Which is most effective; hydrocodone, fentanyl, oxycodone, or methadone?

No such thing: It is not what is most effective, it is what is best for you. I am sure your doctor will choose the safest type of opioid to treat your pain and see how you respond. If you do not respond, then he/she may try a different opioid. The most important thing is to find out what is causing a pain bad enough to require and opioid.

I have fibromyalgia and my body does not metabolize most meds unless thru iv. Fentanyl works wonders how can I get doc to prescribe it for my pain?

I have fibromyalgia and my body does not metabolize most meds unless thru iv. Fentanyl works wonders how can I get doc to prescribe it for my pain?

Overall program: Sounds like you need to be working with a pain medicine physician -- many of whom are also psychiatrists. This physician can review your whole case and personal situation, and help you develop a treatment plan that is more comprehensive than opiates (such as fentanyl) alone. There are many facets to healing from fibromyalgia, and you need all of them to get well. Good luck.

After my doctor made me feel like a drug seeker today, I've taken my Fentanyl patch off and am no longer taking my other meds. Is this dangerous?

After my doctor made me feel like a drug seeker today, I've taken my Fentanyl patch off and am no longer taking my other meds. Is this dangerous?

Stopping: These meds cold could give you a rough ride. I would talk to your doctor or if you are not comfortable with him find another doctor to help you wean off the meds. The higher doses and the longer you were on the meds. All lead to a more severe withdraw. Nausea, vomiting, abd pain, anxiety etc just to name a few symptoms. But explain what you want to do. And wean off slowly.

Can fentanyl toxicity cause hypoglycemia?

Can fentanyl toxicity cause hypoglycemia?

Not Typically: Opioid toxicity may be associated with low bp, confusion and respiratory depression. But, unless taken with other drugs that specifically lower blood glucose (for treating diabetes, for example), or in the presence of decreased nutritional intake, hypoglycemia isn't a prominent finding.

Can a person take loratab 10/325 for break through pain along with fentanyl patch. I have withdrawals and want something that last longer for pain.

Pain Medication: Without any intended judgement it sounds like you may be using your medication inappropriately and could be an addict. Lortab is not a long lasting medication. Fentanyl is a long lasting medication. Have you ever been to a treatment program to help you get off these medications and truly see what your body is like narcotic free?

How do fentanyl patches work?

How do fentanyl patches work?

Provide pain relief: Fentanyl patches are small patches like a band-aid. The medicine is mixed into the bandage material. Once it is applied to the skin, the fentanyl, an opiate medication, slowly dissolves through the patient's skin and is ultimately absorbed into the blood so that it circulates throughout the body providing pain relief. The patches come in different doses affecting length of time they work.

How many (rough) hours would it take for an 88 yr man (with 15% kidney function) to wake up after given fentanyl 25 mcg (for 3 times)?

Variable: Fentanyl is not excreted by the kidneys, but older patients can be pretty sensitive. It may take an hour or more, but really depends on individual pharmakinetics.
