Level 10 pain: Not relieved with oral combinations and long acting opioids is the usual reason for the patch, but adverse affects with the other products (obstipation/consitpation, nausea and vomiting at even low dose) could be a reason. Mom confused: Confusion after general anesthesia is not uncommon in elderly patients. The changes can be short lived or last for days. Much depends on previous history of dementia or alzheimer's. Also, sedatives given before surgery or pain medicines given after can cause confusion. Dexamethasome can cause confusion as well. Be aware that uncontrolled pain can cause some elderly patients to be confused. ...Read more
