Fenistil Dose For One Month Old Babies
My one month old infant doesn't sleep well, he stayed up a lot lately. What can I do to help him get a good deep sleep and more?
See below: Before seeking medical care you may try a period of resting the stomach without feeding for a 1-2 hrs and reintroducing a smaller amount and allowing your infant to digest things more efficiently by keeping him/her upright and allowing the stomach to empty. Reflux can be common. Loose stools is an infant norm-never formed or hard. If fussy and not consolable see your doctor or go to the er. ...Read more
Is it safe to use Benzethonium Chloride (such as Wet Ones wipe) on 1-month old infant boy's face? He got acne and Dr suggested Antibacterial soap, but it was hard to apply. I am thinking of using just water and then wipe with Wet One without rinse.
1 month old, formula feed infant has dark green poop that smells like skunk (sometimes stringy looking)...baby is gassy as well. Is this normal?
Could be: The first thing I would want to make sure is that your child is gaining weight appropriately and thriving. If that is the case, there are numerous things that could be of help, such as different formulas. That decision can be best made with your child's doctor who will know what formula your child is and/or has been on. Good luck. ...Read more
Is constipation in babies normal? My 1 month old girl has constipation and doesn't poop every day and her stomach feels hard?
What is constipation: In a one month breast fed baby no poop for a few days is normal as long as the poop in not hard. Babies in the first month or so have frequents pooh so this change to less frequent pooh causes much worry but is normal regardless on apparent straining. At this age babies also have periods of unexplained crying which sometimes are attributed to gas or trouble with pooh. This is not the case! ...Read more

No: We don't use cold medications or antihistamines (like Fenistil) in young babies. For moderate (or worse) symptoms in a 2 month-old such as coughing, crying, or runny nose, the baby's doctor or the emergency room needs to see the baby. Two months is very young, and such babies need to have their illnesses evaluated unless symptoms are very mild. If very mild, one can talk with the doctor by phone. ...Read more

HI, My 2 week son is having allergy/Hives and paediatrician advised Fenistil drops for him. Can yo please advise if it is safe for 2 week old baby? Tx
Are you sure?: First question is - why do you think they are constipated? If its only because they strain a lot, but the poop is soft, then it likely is completely normal and not constipation at all. Only rock hard pebbly poop defines constipation at this age. Straining is normal. Babies are learning how to poop and aren't good at it. Thus they strain. Just like they don't walk or talk, they don't poop either. ...Read more

My one month old baby has a tooth growing. Is that normal? Should I be worried that it seems to soon.
Tooth: It's definitely earlier than expected (~6 months), however, there are babies that are born with teeth, so it's not that abnormal. I'd take him to his pediatrician, though, to make sure it's not something else but a tooth. ...Read more

My one month old baby has his kidney swollen I want to know if its something bad I should worry about? Or will it go away when he gets older?
Can be from many causes. Presumably prenatal ultrasound picked up this. Lot of time it goes away, unless there are structural cause, e.g. Obstruction: uretero-pelvic junction obstruction, posterior urethral valve, etc are commoner and surgically correctable.
His pediatrician and ped. Urologist will definitely explain to you. Remember one normal functioning kidney is enough for life. ...Read more

I have a one month old baby and she's been really stuffy. I use saline drops and a aspirator but it's only temporary. Is there anything else I can do?
Humidity: You are already doing the saline drops, but in addition run a humidifier, take her in the bathroom while you shower, take a trip to a tropical rain forest! . Unfortunately, at this age, medicines to "dry her up" are more dangerous than helpful. They can do funky things to her heart, make her vomit, etc - just not a good idea to use them. Humidify, suck out nose, small frequent feeds, cuddle and tlc. ...Read more
My grandson is one month old. He seems to be constipated. His last bm was yesterday morning. Is this something we should be overly concerned about? Any ideas or home remedies for such a young baby? Help...:)
Breastfed?: If he is breastfed, he may only have a bowel movement once a week and that would be normal. If he is otherwise acting well (continuing to feed regularly, no vomiting, making >5 wet diapers per day) and when his bowel movements do occur, they do not appear hard, this may be his pattern. Formula fed babies usually have more frequent stools. ...Read more

Yes. Wait a month.: If a baby is eating fine, growing fine, and seems happy, then one need not worry about him knowing about "night" yet. By keeping the "night" dark, quiet, and without noise or activities; and making the "daytime" bright, with sounds, feedings, and activities; a parent can help his baby have a good, natural bodily rhythm. The baby will sleep better at night, and behave happier during the day, soon. ...Read more

My child had been diagnosed to have antenatal hydronephrosis. The baby is one month old now and the swelling is still there. What can be done to make?
Probably temporize: Mostly prenatally diagnosed hydronephosis will persist > 1 month. Management depends upon degree of h. Most cases of mild to moderate h will resolve spontaneously & some will persist to certain degree without any problem. Severe h warrants diuretic mag3 nuclear scan to quantitate relative function of each kidney & degree of obstruction. Cystogram if bilateral h. Surgical correction? Controversial. ...Read more
Is this okay for a 1 month old to do? My baby was born 6lbs 2oz and 19in long. He's now one month and since like two weeks back he's been eating 4oz of formula milk every 2hours and a half-3hours during the day. At night time it weird, like yeaterday I fini
Don't: Don't wake him up! Thank your lucky stars that he's a good sleeper and let him sleep through the night! Unless he has a genetic disorder that requires him to eat every few hours (and you would know this because it is part of the newborn screen), it is fine to let him sleep throughout the night - even 8 hours if he'll do it. He may want to eat more during the day if he's sleeping more at night, so if he's draining that 4 oz bottle, you may want to offer 5 or 6 oz. He'll let you know when he's hungry. Congratulations on your baby! ...Read more
