Tamoxifen is given to breast cancer patients to suppress estrogen or both estrogen & progesterone?

Estrogen: Tamoxifen is given to individuals with specific breast cancers that are driven to grow by the presence of estrogen receptors. Tamoxifen interferes with the activity of estrogen in the breast, preventing cancer growth. The role of Progesterone receptors is unclear, though Progesterone receptors in breast cancer are generally associated with estrogen receptors, making tamoxifen an effective therapy. ...Read more

When prometrium (micronized progesterone) stimulates instead of sedates a perimenopausal woman what should be taken? Estrogen in combo with prometrium (micronized progesterone)?

When prometrium (micronized progesterone) stimulates instead of sedates a perimenopausal woman what should be taken? Estrogen in combo with prometrium (micronized progesterone)?

Go see your doctor: While our impression of estrogen for perimenopausal women has changed dramatically over the last decade, it still should be used for right reason, and sedation is not one of them. So go see your prescribing doctor & tell her/him about your side effects so that s/he can offer you some alternatives (rather than just throw more medications at you). ...Read more

Is estrasorb the only non synthetic estrogen available for menopause symptoms?

No: Please try to ignore synthetic argument when it comes to medications. Everything is synthetic unless you pick it off tree or pull it off ground or kill animal. Even clover, soy & yam have to be synthesized into hormone product. Check out my discussion at http://alvinblin.Com/2013/04/new-drug-big-pharma-goes-bio-identical.Html. What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?

What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?

Depends: If you have an intact uterus then I would use a birth control pill as it provides both the estrogen and progesterone you need to prevent pregnancy and endometrial hyperplasia. If you have had a hysterectomy than both premarin (conjugated estrogens) and estradiol (estrace) would be fine. The estrogen in birth control by the way is estradiol as well. Birth control also lowers ovarian cancer risk (combined pills only) ...Read more
