I did the splits and heard and felt a loud popping sound behind my thigh. It hurts to walk and feels very weak. Very tender. Get it checked out?
Yes: I would recommend having it checked out. There most likely isn't anything emergent you should go to the er with, but you could have damaged any one of a number of muscles/attachment or tendons and you will need a physical exam to clarify which of these this is, including possible hamstring injury. Sounds degenerative: Sounds like you have some muscular symptoms that may be related to underlying degenerative changes as your popping or self manipulation gives you some temporary relief. Try some neck stretches while taking a hot shower as well as some over the counter medications like Naproxen or Ibuprofen if no GI issues or Aspirin allergy. Edema: If this is primarily on the legs, it may be due to low level swelling or edema. Fluid can sometimes be retained in the legs from standing or sitting for long periods.
