A: A concussion is simply traumatic brain injury as the result to a direct or indirect blow to the head. A ct can rule out fracture or bleeding but cannot diagnose a concussion. A contussion is merely the outer swelling/bruising of the skin and head.
Symptoms of concussion include: altered level of consciousness, headache, nasea/vomiting, etc.
At this point in time the most important things to rule out are bleed/fracture which the ct did. Now you just need to monitor for improvement. ...Read more

66 m fell hit his head. Now bleeding has stop and there is a pool of blood in the front right lob, he remains unresponsive. Why is he not waking up?

Head trauma: Head trauma can be lethal, and in cases of survival, the course is unpredictable. Most likely, this 66 year-old male will recover as the subdural hematoma resolves. It is very difficult to predict how intense is the damage to the midbrain, and how quickly he will recover and restore his superior functions. It is also very important that his vital signs are maintained stable during his recovery. ...Read more

My grandma has alzheimer's. She fell hit her head on the dresser. Is she near the end you think?

Not enough info: My crystal ball is in the shop getting fixed. There's no good way to predict how close someone is to the end just b/c s/he fell. On the otherhand, we recommend hospice for someone who doesn't eat, can't talk, is bowel/ladder incontinent, bedbound w/pressure ulcers, assuming there's no other explanation. But assuming someone is ambulatory prior to falling, there's no reason 2 think s/he is near end. ...Read more

My 2 yr old fell, hit her head. She quickly had a large bump that ran right along a blood vessel. It has gone down some with ice. What does this mean?

Falls and injuries: To the head often lead to a large bump because there is no soft tissue over the bone to absorb any blood from an injury.Children her age and younger often have prominent scalp blood vessels. If you are not seeing bleeding from that, I would not be concerned about that aspect. However, if she develops vomiting, sleepiness, different behavior than usual, or the bump enlarges a lot, see her doctor/ ER. ...Read more

I fell& hit my head. I had a goose egg which now has went down but my left side of forehead&right before bottom of eye swollen/bruise. No side effects?

Gravity: The goose egg was a hematoma. A hematoma is bleeding under the skin that clots and forms a mass. The body then breaks up this clot and some of it "leaks" and appears to spread to a different area. In most cases, the spreading is below the original injury which is simply due to gravity. ...Read more

Yes!: An epidural hematoma is caused by a blow to the head, in the temple area. These involve bleeding that is initially confined between membranes within the skull cavity, so a person may appear totally normal at first.
