Feels like a lump on the back part of my tongue?

See a ENT: The sensation of a bump in the back of tongue may just be swelling due to acid reflux, but it is also possible there is a tumor below the surface of the tongue that you can't yet see. Especially if you are a smoker or drinker you should see a doctor.

Feels like lump on back part of tongue/throat chiropractor says I have nerve-endings there. What could this be? Was in auto accident & having neck sps

Meaningless: You have nerve endings EVERYWHERE. That tells you nothing about whatever's bothering you. It's like explaining a heart attack by saying there are nerve endings in the heart. It explains nothing except that your chiropractor's a quack who knows as much about the human body as you do. Chiropractic is 100% bogus. Stay away from those charlatans; they're a threat to your health.

2 very painful lumps under right part of tongue near jaw line. Hard to swallow. Should it be checked out?

Pain tongue lesion: 37 yo female with painful focal tongue lesion and 'dysphagia' is worrisome, esp with recent trends of HPV associated growths in oral cavity among younger patients. Make appt with ENT or oral surgeon for a good oral exam and possibly a biopsy in clinic based on their judgement of these lesions. Best not to wait and ignore.

Lump: Any pain, bleeding, or as in your case swelling should be evaluated. Important that you see your Dentist immediately. Most likely cause would be spreading infection, but there are many other possibilities.

Should there be a long lump on the back of my tongue or where I swallow?

Depends: Some lumps are perfectly normal on the back of the tongue (tastebuds) and some are variations of normal. Some are the result of trauma and some arise from neoplastic events. The best way to determine what your lumps are is to get an exam from a dentist and go from there.

There's a lump on the back of my tongue and its smooth to touch and sore it's not bleeding or anything what could this be.

There's a lump on the back of my tongue and its smooth to touch and sore it's not bleeding or anything what could this be.

Get it checked.: We have normal structures on the tongue that are smooth and lump like. These do not usually hurt and the texture is like surrounding tissue. If you have a lump that is tender then it should be checked. If the doctor thinks it needs a biopsy then you should get that done. Good luck.

Globus or dysphagia?: Simple evaluation may alleviate your concern and start you on the path to treatment, if warranted--please see your doctor. In the meantime, please refer to prior HealthTap answers respectively regarding tongue anatomy and dysphagia.

Pharyngitis: Most times, acute pharyngitis (infection of the back of the throat) are caused by viruses or bacteria. Symptoms of these infections include, but are not limited to: 1) sore throat, 2) runny nose, 3) cough, 4) sinus pressure, 5) otalgia (ear pain), 6) fever, 7) fatigue. Best to give it time and push the fluids! If not improving then you need to see a medical provider, especially after 3 weeks!

Have had chronic post nasal drip for 3 weeks. Have noticed a small hard lump on the back of tongue near throat and throat is sore when I swallow. Any?

Have had chronic post nasal drip for 3 weeks. Have noticed a small hard lump on the back of tongue near throat and throat is sore when I swallow. Any?

Drip unrelated: Post nasal drip does not induce growth of an intra oral lesion. Tumors on the tongue most often occur in the anterior 1/3. These appear as ulcers on the lateral side of the tongue. A small number of lesions grow in posterior 1/3 just before the epiglottis. It can be felt as a firm mid line lump and should be checked by H&N surgeon. If bx +, excision is by transhyoid pharyngotomy.

Does everyone have little lumps in the back of their tongue?

Tongue bumps: These bumps are most likely circumvallate papillae which are normal structures on the tongue. They have some function in taste and saliva is released from the base of them.

What does it mean if you have red lumps on the back of your tongue?

What does it mean if you have red lumps on the back of your tongue?

Tongue bumps: Your tongue has 4 different types of surfaces. The very back of your tongue is covered with a mushroom shaped surface that is more pronounced than the front, sides, or underneath surfaces. Fungi form papilla cover the back section and can trap food underneath the edges. This leads to potential irritation and bad breath. A tongue scraper will remove the irritants; a conservative first step.
