Normal: As the baby grows in yor womb, the womb pushes up on your stomach. Changes can feel like heartburn, indigestion, or 'burps'. Try some antacid liquid (like maalox or mylanta) and see if that helps. Also, drink slowly so you don't swallow alot of air. ...Read more

What is causing me to burp constantly? It feels like there is gas stuck in my chest and the pressure is giving me headaches.

This : This sounds like gerd (gastroesophageal reflux disease) aka acid reflux. When too much acid is produced in your stomach it flows back up into the esophagus causing burning and burping. Headaches can also result from this problem, but are not as common. Gerd can be managed by eating less acidic foods, spicy foods, chocolate and caffeine. Also acid blockers (i.e. Pepcid) or proton pump inhibitors (i.e.Prolosec otc) can be used to help reduce symptoms. On the other hand chest pressure can also be cardiac in origin. Things such as angina can mimic gerd. This occurs when your heart muscle is not getting enough oxygen, and can ultimately lead to a heart attack. I recommend making an appointment with your pcp (primary care provider) sooner rather than later. A more detailed history and physical along with diagnostic tests will provide a diagnosis, and treatment can be started. ...Read more

Consider this...: Aerophagia (swallowed air) distends stomach & may result in burping. Also, gassiness/ stomach distension after meals can reflect: 1) partial gastric outlet obstruction due to gastritis/ulcer; 2) pyloric narrowing from scar;3) gastroparesis due to delayed stomach emptying (as w/diabetic gut neuropathy); 4) bacterial overgrowth in gut; 5) any malabsorption; 6) pancreatic maldigestion; 7) ibs; 8) more. ...Read more

Feels like food is stuck on my chest for a few hours, no problem swallowing liquids. Have the urge to force myself to burp?

Feels like food is stuck on my chest for a few hours, no problem swallowing liquids. Have the urge to force myself to burp?

Hi: If liquids pass you probably do not have a blockage as they would come back up too. You might have irritated your lower esophagus. Liquid antacids might be the best to try at first and dose four times a day. You might need to treat up to two weeks and Zantac OTC would be easier. If your symptoms have been there longer then you need to seek further evaluation and treatment and possibly a scope. ...Read more

My chest feels like my food is stuck and I keep burping and spitting up flem what could be my problem?

Dysphagia?: Narrowing of the esophagus due to inflammation, scarring or tumor can cause food to get stuck. Not rare with chronic reflux/heartburn symptoms-typically solids. Tight lower esoph sphincter can cause also. Abnormalities in muscles/nerves/coordination of swallow cause problems with solids and liquids. See a GI doc. Tests include xray swallow, endoscopy, muscle test (manometry). Rx: help or cure. ...Read more

Get evaluated.: Anytime you feel a sense of food or fluids "sticking" at a specific place, I am concerned that there may be a narrowing in the esophagus. This may be as simple as irritation from a capsule that got stuck to something more complicated like a tumor. Needless to say, you need the information. Your doctor may refer you to a gastroenterologist, or send you for some imaging studies first. Good luck. ...Read more
