Therapy & meds.

Despair suggests intense discomfort. A combination of therapy and meds may be needed. Ur family doctor or psychiatrist can manage u mediation-wise. Also have them (or a friend) recommend a good therapist. Psychotherapy is a wonderful process to address such feelings, explore what they're about as well as explore ways to cope and address underlying issues! Get in therapy; you'll be glad you did..

Yes but also explore

these feelings in Psychotherapy. As to medication, meet with a psychiatrist and have them evaluate you and decide whether an antidepressant is what's needed or what. Despair usually spells depression; but we are such individual creatures and we express ourselves in such unique ways that ur best bet is to discuss ur feelings in detail with a psychiatrist & see what he/she recommend for YOU.

Change a job?

Try to focus on positive aspects of your work environment -- make a list and put it in front of you when you experience feelings of despair. How about looking for another job, talk to a career counselor-- re-evaluate your feelings related to the job -- did you feel this way before or something changed? Good luck!

Must change

for your mental health, either change the way you appreciate the job or change job. Not so much other people thanking you for the job but even more importantly, whether you appreciate the importance of the job. Why should you waste your life on work that you don't see as useful to anyone? Look for another job that you think will be better. Give it a try.

If you have been experiencing these issues since your teenage years, it would be very important to work with an experienced psychotherapist to discover the reasons as well as find possible solutions. Though there can be many possible causes, feelings like this can be common in people who have been abused or neglected as kids. Poor self-image and inability to move forward in life can result.

Yes, hormones do play a role. OK, you have a point. Money stress will only make it worse and some tx is not helpful. So try some DIY. There are good sites this is just one. http://www.anxietycoach.com/breathingexercise.html Perhaps a Mindfulness Meditation group class? You can do things that will help. Good luck.

Many causes

Depression can be caused by many contributory biological (eg medications, medical conditions, substances, etc), psychological (eg thoughts, resiliency, etc) and/or situational (eg loss of job, interpersonal disconnect, etc) features. Risperidone and/or the actual cause/reaction to the psychosis can cause depression. Cipralex (an SSRI antidepressant) may help, but can take weeks for full effect.

Psychotic depression

It sounds like your sister may have a psychotic form of depression. This includes all the suffering of non-psychotic depression but with hallucinations and delusions added. These can be self-abusive and self-negating. Effective treatment requires BOTH antidepressant and antipsychotic medications, so your sister's treatment should help. If suicidal, she may need inpatient treatment for a time.

Psychotherapy

A good psychotherapist can help you examine the behaviors that lead up to the guilty feelings. Some guilt is appropriate and should signal you to change the behaviors that are causing it. Other guilt is due to distorted thinking and really inappropriate, this type of guilt is best treated with cognitive changes. A therapist can be helpful in distinguishing between the two and making changes.
