Dry mouth: Many medications can cause dry mouth. Even many over the counter meds can do this. If you are not peeing excessively, it may just be xerostomia (dry m). Anxiety and your emotional state can do this. Try some lemon in your water. It stimulates the salivary glands which is why most have dry mouth - due to inactivity of the salivary glands. See a doctor for tests.

See MD: Causes of saliva overproduction include pregnancy, excessive starch intake, gastroesophageal reflux disease, pancreatitis, liver disease, serotonin syndrome, oral ulcers, and oral infections. Treatment should be directed toward the underlying cause. Some patients find relief with use of mouthwash and tooth brushing, which might have a drying effect. If concerned, see MD for evaluation.

How come when I brush my teeth and about 10 minutes after I get very thirsty amd very thick saliva in my mouth?

How come when I brush my teeth and about 10 minutes after I get very thirsty amd very thick saliva in my mouth?

Normal: It is not abnormal for some people to have increased saliva after brushing. Any thing or activity in mouth can stimulate the salivary glands, major and minor, to put of out the fluids. This is a response to prepare for chewing, swallowing and digestion. Some saliva is more thick and ropey. Normal.

Thirst: This can be due to being slightly dehydrated- your body's natural way of telling you to drink, medication side effects, or even sign of diabetes especially if you have increased urination as well.

Check for diabetes: Diabetes is something that can creep up later in life; if you suddenly are getting thirsty all the time (polydipsia), especially if you are urinating more frequently, having to wake up at night to urinate, you should definitely get a re-evaluation for possible diabetes.

I'm finding lately that I get very thirsty and my mouth is dry. Why?

Various reasons: The first one you should investigate is the possibility of having diabetes, or maybe one of a few common syndromes. See your md for simple tests. You also might have dry mouth (xerostomia) due to side effects from certain medications. By the way, dry mouth does make you much more susceptible to having cavities, so you should see your dentist as well. He/she can help too.

Over use of salt: Overuse of salt will make you thirsty and will make your mouth feel dry - the dry mouth sensation is a natural trigger to get you to drink more and more. So, please drink more fluid and use less salt.
