Have GERD Is ranitidine better than Nexium (esomeprazole) and Pepcid to help take away burning stuck feeling in throat.
There is no one best: Medication for GERD. the best med will be the one that you & your doc find helps you the best, with the fewest side effects. ranitidine is an H2 blocker, as is pepcid; while nexium (esomeprazole) is a "PPI" or proton pump inhibitor. it seems unlikely, that if a PPI + an H2 blocker is not fully effective now, that an H2 blocker alone (ranitidine) would be effective. Salivary gland/diver: The sensation of something "stuck" in the throat could be secondary to an enlarged salivary gland (associated with dry mouth) secondary to a little stone in the salivary gland duct. Other possibility could be a small diverticulum (a little sac or pouch) on the side of esophagus (the food pipe that goes from the mouth to the stomach). Acid reflux can irritate the upper esophagus also. ...Read more

Maybe: This is a very common complaint amongst patients with gerd, but is poorly understood. There is definately the sensation something is stuck there, but typically nothing really is. It probably has to do with abnormal sensory input form the pharynx and upper esophageal sphincter. In any case, its certainly not dangerous. If you want to check out your gerd, see your doctor. ...Read more

Can chronic sinusitis cause feeling of something stuck in throat and bad breathe? And can it be viral?
Yes: Yes, chronic sinusitis can cause bad breath and mucus - feeling like it is stuck or dripping into the back of your throat. If your symptoms are chronic, that is, having lasted for more than 3-4 weeks, it is less likely to be viral and more likely to be there because of a bacterial or fungal infection. Also underlying allergies are often a contributing factor to the development of sinusitis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
