Reflux?: Many of my patients have this complaint. Acid reflux can come up to your throat and inflame the tissues of the voicebox(larynx) which are sensitive. Globus Pharyngis: I've heard it diagnosed as globus pharyngis or hystericus. It's a lump in the throat feeling w/o actual cause. It is usually anxiety, can be GERD or post-nasal drip. Maybe: This is a very common complaint amongst patients with gerd, but is poorly understood. There is definately the sensation something is stuck there, but typically nothing really is. It probably has to do with abnormal sensory input form the pharynx and upper esophageal sphincter. In any case, its certainly not dangerous. Maybe not just GERD: Further evaluation is key to determining if your symptoms are reflux-related or not. Also, if reflux, is it acid or non-acid material that is involved? Sometimes, pulmonary, ent, or dental issues are at play, ; sometimes dysmotility or gastroparesis is the issue. Are you sure your acid blocker dose is sufficient ; that you have been compliant with behavior ; diet restrictions to minimize gerd? ...Read more

Globus pharyngeus : Is a feeling of foreign body or lump in the throat. It could be associated with GERD or local irritation (pharyngitis or tonsillitis), and postnasal drip in chronic sinusitis. All the above causes could be associated with cough. Psychological factor could cause globus sensation( globus hystericus). Consult an ENT physician to role out these causes. ...Read more
