The: The best thing to do in this situation is to visit your doctor for an iud check. Your doctor will put a speculum in your vagina and locate the iud. The string may be too long and the string needs to be cut so you won't feel it, or if it is misplaced then it will be removed and an appointment will have to be made to insert a new one if you choose.

Maybe polyp? Period?: First of all, be sure you were not pregnant. But if that is neg, then you likely shed a polyp. sometimes the whole uterine lining sheds (called a cast.) but unclear why that would happen just at that time.
