Doctor insights on:
Feel Dizzy When I Laugh Hard
Possible.: Sometimes laughing hard can slow the heart rate down and increase pressure in the chest and abdomen enough that blood return to the heart from the lower part of the body is compromised. This can cause a transient decrease in blood flow to the brain and lead to a sense of loss of consciousness.
Blood flow issues: If your laughing fits are vigorous enough to cause you to stop breathing (even temporarily), this in turn could cause multiple changes in vessel diameters and cardiac output which eventually could lead to low blood flow to the brain. Thereafter the decreased blood flow produces a feeling of near-fainting or dizziness.
Dizzy: Laughing can cause dizziness as it may increase intracranial pressure which in turn may cause dizziness. Please see a neurologist for a complete history, physical, and to better understand your symptoms.
About three weeks ago, I had a sudden and unexplainable episode of severe dizziness, and ever since then a constant feeling of lightheadedness and imbalance has taken over almost 100%. This feeling of diziness is most felt right after laughing hard for e
I have trouble breathing, tingling of hands and feet, dizziness, cold hands and feet, tired, light headed on laughing hard and stomach muscle pain?
Hyperventilating: The sensation of difficulty breathing, tingling fingers, And feeling light headed can be symptoms of hyperventilating. However, this does not usually happen with laughing and cause pain in the stomach muscles. Try breathing into a paper bag when you are having symptoms. If it is hyperventilation, this will make it better. Hope this helps. If not, you need to see your PCP.
Need check up: Sometimes laughing hard may momentarily drop your blood pressure and/or lower your heart rate. When this response is exaggerated it might make you feel lightheaded. I would see a doctor and undergo an examination to make sure there is not a condition known as hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Also perhaps recording an ECG strip as you laugh may help to see if you have a long pause in heart beat.
I am getting really dizzy when I laugh and that is happening very often. Sometimes when I eat as well. Should I worry?
Check with Your Doc: Well, first think about renting some Ingmar Bergman movies and reading a lot of Charles Bukowski, just for laughs. Next, think about what happens when you laugh, it's like rapid staccato breath holding and expulsions, especially if you let all the air out. Just be grateful you don't laugh so much you pee in your pants! The question:is it all due to the way you laugh or is there something else going on
Sometimes if somrthing funny happens and I burst out in a big laugh I get dizzy. Today it was a strong dizzl feeling that only lasted a minute or so.
Vasovagal response: This is a neurologic response to some triggering factor and is the most common cause of passing out suddenly. There are different syncope syndromes which all fall under the umbrella of vasovagal syncope. The common element among these conditions is the central mechanism leading to loss of consciousness. The differences among them are in the factors that trigger this mechanism.
Every once and a while I get really dizzy and super light headed when I laugh, what could this be a result from?
Vasovagal: This may be a form of a vasovagal reaction. See your doctor who may be able to help.
Laugh Yourself Silly: People have been known to get light-headed and even faint during a bout of hard laughing, especially if more air is going out than in--but it's not common, so if you faint at a mere giggle and not a guffaw, you might want to be examined. There are receptors in the neck and brain that respond to pressure and you may be causing too much from laughing. Those receptors affect heart rate and blood pressure
This can happen: Prolonged coughing/laughing can reduce the amount of blood being pumped from your heart and thus less blood getting to your brain causing temporary dizziness. This occurs more commonly with those having lower BP or with carotid stenosis (narrowing). Symptoms should be mild and brief, but you report "really dizzy", I suggest seeing doc for eval/treatment. Good luck.
Have lupus and iih. But when I laugh or sing I lose my breath abs get dizzy. Not sure what to do?
Could be ur airways: You may want to check with your doctor, airway hyper-reactivity could be the case, after evaluation your doctor might prescribe some inhalers to help you, good luck
Been experiencing dizzy spells to the point of passing out when I laugh. Been occurring for the past yr. I do have high blood pressure?
Laughing syncope: (passing out) is one of a number of autonomically mediated disorders. Often times patients are misdiagnosed as "hypertensive" but this is part of the syndrome and the doctor's well meaning treatment of the hypertension actually results in severe worsening of the autonomic dysfunction and recurrent potentially harmful syncope. You need to be evaluated by an Electrophysiologist & properly diagnosed.
When I laugh I get dizzy & start coughing. Also often air hungry but pulmonologist says lungs OK (normal CXR, spyromentry). Should I seek 2nd opinion?
Yes: Recommend counsel primary care doctor internal medicine for full of evaluation
When I laugh I feel dizzy like I'm going to pass out. Lack of oxygen? New symptom. Also when I cough. What could this be?
Vagal response: It sound like you are getting s Vaal reaction initiated by the sudden increase in the abdominal pressure from laughing or coughing. Try to stay well hydrated by drinking at least 6-8 bottles of water a day in the winter and more in summer. Not better see a doctor
I have a bump on the back of my head that gives me severe headaches, dizzy spells and impaired hearing. Also it sometimes hurts when I laugh or smile.
