Depends on why: Self-feeding depends on fine motor & oral-motor skills & typically starts at 9 mos. Can she grasp objects with the palm of her hand (4 mos.), get her hands to her mouth (5-6 mos.) "scissor" grasp with thumb and forefinger(7-8 mos.) or pincer grasp (10-12 mos.)? Does she swallow foods other than liquids & hold/play with a spoon? Slowly: This may require bland foods that are easy on the gastrointestinal system like you find in a BRAT diet(Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast) and you may want to make the meals small and more frequent instead of larger and 3X/day. Poor eater: That's not enough nutrition for a 2 mo baby. Babies continue to gain weight despite having acid reflux. Is your baby vomiting also? Perhaps he may have pyloric stenosis. If a girl, poor feeding is one of the signs of a UTI (urinary tract infection) and one of the metabolic diseases. It looks like your baby needs more detailed evaluation. .: If young child is refusing feeds, very high chance for dehydration. Also need to find reason why refusing feeds. Take child to physician and also keep trying to give small amounts of feeds or pedialyte. Keep monitoring amount of urine output too. ...Read more

Warer: Make sure using distillers water not tap unless premixed. Also baby probably needs Pepcid or Prevacid (lansoprazole). Only feed 1 ounce per hour and see if that keeps it down better ...Read more

Is it ok to save leftover formula in the refeigerator if my baby doesn't finish the whole bottle during one feeding?

Not perfect: The baby's saliva contains enzymes that break down proteins in formula or baby food & a little saliva always gets into the bottle or jar. It's better to give smaller portions initially, because you can always give a little more if your baby indicates (s)he's still hungry. If you spoon-feed from a jar of baby food & put the leftover portion in the fridge, it'll be liquid by the next day. ...Read more

# of calories: Baby's brains and bodies can sense how many calories are delivered to it in 24 hour cycles. If the body is not getting enough calories during the daytime, the brain will wake a baby at night to request more food. You can try gradually increasing the feeding amounts during the day or try and get one extra feed worked in during the day, so body won't want or need those calories at night. ...Read more
