This could be an infant who is not able to suck and swallow appropriate or unable to developmentally move on to advanced/complex food. It can also describe and elderly person who no longer has a desire to eat leading to significant weight change

My 21 wk girl is has season allergies 10 lbs 11 oz. Dx: ftt & feeding difficulties. Can i give her Benadryl (diphenhydramine) & what dose based on her weight?

My 21 wk girl is has season allergies 10 lbs 11 oz.  Dx: ftt & feeding difficulties. Can i give her Benadryl (diphenhydramine) & what dose based on her weight?

No, never under 1 yr: Absolutely, definitely do not use Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for a baby less than one year old. Do talk with the pediatrician for advise, it may not be allergy. Some believe children that young do not yet have allergies. A pediatrician may discover the real problem and provide the right treatment. Even a good pharmacist might recommend a safe alternative until you see the doctor. Best! ...Read more
