Fear Of Having A Heart Attack
Fear of Heart Attack: It is true that more men and women die of a heart attack than anything else. It isn't generally at age 35, though. I'm wondering what your family history is for cardiovascular disease, if you are obese, if you exercise or are sedentary, and what caused you to have this fear. Without knowing more, I can't say how grounded I think your fear is. ...Read more

Hi. Sitting at work and all of a sudden numbness all over my body and this huge fear of having a heart attack. Extreme fear of dying. Thank you?
What is the best medicine for anxiety? I'm on celexa (citalopram) and it doesn't work. I have a constant fear of having a heart attack like my father.
Caution: Be cautious with anxiolytics. They can help, but are best used short-term as they can be very addictive. Perhaps a better long term strategy would be to understand why you are so afraid the same thing will happen to you as happened to your father. Your risk factors may be entirely different and you may really not be at risk. Also, consider an increase in the Celexa (citalopram) if you are under 20 g a day. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I have a fear of heart attack.. Got all the checkups done and all are negative. No family hisotry.can u ensure tht excercise would keep me away frm it?
Unreasonable.: Fear is unfounded. Risk of heart disease within next 10 years is extremely low. Risk of dying or being injured from accidents, alcohol, or recreational activities is far greater. Reasons for misperception of risk are complex and should be explored with someone who can help you work through it. Regular exercise reduces risk, but since initial risk is very low there will be little net benefit. ...Read more

Family history: Usually a family history (first degree relatives) of heart attacks or strokes can be a red flag for developing similar conditions in the future. What would cause tingling in left thumb and index finger while on a brisk walk? Constant fear of heart attack. Could this signal heart problems?
Highly unlikely: Your symptoms are atypical for coronary artery spasm or other forms of heart disease &i suspect the reason you are concerned is because it is on your left side which is where everyone focuses attention when it involves the heart.
