Presacral ultrasound shows "thickening/edema of subcutaneous fatty tissue". PAINFUL and hard lump under the skin and can be felt. Surgical removal?
U/S is non specific: You need diagnosis. More history. The U/S adds a little but not enough. MRI would also add info, but again may not be enough. MRI would be most sensitive in seeing borders and might give useful info for a surgeon, for ex. Vascularity. Only surgeons can decide on incisional bx. Vs. excision. Hacking around is cheapest, but for me (a radiologist) MRI is good to avoid surprises and safe to do. ...Read more

Iv had tests to see what a lump is in my chest just under the surface of the skin. The result said not to worry its just a fat patch. It's grown why?
Lipoma: Lipomas are benign (non-cancerous) fatty tumors that appear under the skin. They are harmless and can sometimes be caused by blunt trauma. They can grow over time and many choose to have these lesions surgically removed (excision). In nearly all cases, removal is simple and can be performed in the office. Occasionally, these lesions can be tender, which prompts people for evaluation and removal. ...Read more

Hello, I feel a couple of small (2 mm) tender moving lump over central area of my sternum just under the skin: are those lymph nodes or fat? Thanks!
That's small: 2 mm is about half the size of the diameter of a headphone jack on a cell phone or laptop. Lymph nodes are not that small, and fat globules that small probably would feel like normal skin. A tiny 2mm lump in the skin covering the sternum might be a comedone, because comedones do occur in that area, and they would be about that size. Of course, it takes an exam to help decide what the tiny lump is. ...Read more

Fatty: Fatty tumors (or lipomas) are usually not hard. They are usually soft and squishy. I've had a lump under skin of my left hand for few weeks. It's firm but squishy. Doesn't hurt but hand sometimes hurts. Could it be a fatty deposit?
Need to remove it: It could be any number of diagnoses, including a synovial (join-derived) cyst, a non-synovial (hair follicle) cyst, lipoma (a fatty growth, but rather uncommon on the hands), or even an abscess (a localized infection). I would remove this growth. A dermatologist/dermatologic surgeon or hand surgeon can do this procedure and once it is removed and biopsied you will know the diagnosis as well. ...Read more

See below: If this is in forearm near the wrist (either side of wrist), a ganglion cyst is favored. As with any 'firm lump' in the skin/subcutis, these are the possibilities: cysts (ganglion or inclusion), nodular fasciitis, neurofibroma, benign myxoid tumors, or other fibrous tumors such as DFSP.
