I was told that my blood sugar was low yrs ago but wasn't formerly diagnosed. Now is hypothyroid why do I feel so sick after eating sugary foods?

High glycemic index: Very sugary foods tend to have a high glycemic index. This increases your blood sugar rapidly. Your body then reacts by releasing Insulin and you get a rapid drop in your blood sugar as glucose is moved out of the blood stream. Those fluctuations feel bad. Read about the glycemic index and try to eat foods that have a lower glycemic index and often this will help with hypoglycemia. ...Read more

Just diagnosed hypothyroid but my glucose drops to 70-50mg. Have symptoms of hypoglycemia 2-3 hours after eating but my doc said my bloodsugar was ok?

4 reactive hypoglyce: Eat only meat or fish or cheese or eggs or poultry and low starch veggies, drink only water. In other words avoid all carbs, carbs will only briefly raise your sugar levels and then your Insulin levels. The fats in the meat or fish or cheese or eggs or poultry will act like a "log on your metabolic fire" to keep your blood sugar stable for hours without raising insulin. ...Read more

Fatigue, medication and hypothyroidism, what to do?

Hypothyroidism: Fatigue goes along with untreated or under-treated hypothyroidism. Medication is prescribed to treat low thyroid function. I recommend Armour Thyroid, Naturethroid, or compounded T3/T4 more often than other medications. I also recommend making sure you have adequate iodine, selenium, and zinc. I also recommend my patients stop gluten. This is the functional medicine approach. ...Read more

I am hypothyroid I also have sympyoms of adrenal fatigue. How is it treated?

Adrenal fatigue: A very low cortisol could be addison’s disease (adrenal failure) but this is relatively rare, although slightly more common with hypothyroid. A “low cortisol” is over-diagnosed; the term “adrenal fatigue” is sometimes used, which is a fake diagnosis. If someone says you have this, see an endocrinologist for confirmation. The symptoms of adrenal fatigue are common to many conditions. ...Read more

What are the early symptoms of hypothyroidism? I've missed my period last january and felt easy fatiguability but I'm on my period now.

Check TSH: Hypothyroidism typically results in heavier periods, not lighter. Symptoms of low thyroid include weight gain, fatigue, feeling cold, hair loss, constipation, swelling, dry skin. However, all of these are very common symptoms in the population, so having them does not necessarily mean that you are hypothyroid. You can get a blood test for tsh, free T4 to be sure. ...Read more

What are some natural ways to combat fatigue due to hypothyroidism? I take levothyroxine and my levels are normal but I still suffer from bad fatigue.

What are some natural ways to combat fatigue due to hypothyroidism? I take levothyroxine and my levels are normal but I still suffer from bad fatigue.

May need med change: A 'normal' thyroid level is not always optimal. Most people feel best when they are at the upper part of the normal level. That is with their TSH between 0.4 and 1.0. The TSH level is the best way to assess your thyroid level. Also, some people do not convert the levothyroxine (t4) to the active hormone T3 and need to take some T3 (liothyronine) with the T4 or a combination such as armour thyroid. ...Read more

I'm having hypothyroid problems but all my labs are normal. Fatigue, weight gain, headaches, dry skin, etc. Where do I go from here?

My third generation TSH is 0.085 et my ft4 is 0.59. Is this indicative of secondary hypothyroidism? I has so many symptoms including extream fatigue..

Possible Drug Effect: A TSH that is that low, combined with a free T4 that is less than 0.7, also low, may well suggest hypothyroidism, or, possibly, the effect of thyroid medications or thyroid-like antagonists.
