Post-op: You had an infection and micro-surgery. Some swelling is to be anticipated. Numbness may be due to the swelling or the injection. Give it 48 hours from the time of treatment. Apply cold compresses 1st day, warm compresses 2nd day. Take all prescribed meds exactly as directed. If problem does not begin to resolve by the 48 hour mark, call your Dentist.

A few days: Once the abscess is drained, most symptoms go away quickly, within a few days. If the abscess is still in the gums, your dentist may suggest that you rinse with warm salt water a few times a day or you may need antibiotics to help fighting infection. Regardless, the abscess will not be cured unless the cause is completely eliminated.

Could be: If there is no associated pain, it's not likely anything harmful... but I would suggest you have it looked at by your dentist to make sure. Hope this helps!

Dental abscess: It is likely that you may have developed a tooth abscess after the procedure. I would recommend a visit to the Dentist once again to see if the abscess needs drainage. If you are unable to visit a dentist, please visit your GP or Urgent Care clinic to see if you need to be started on oral antibiotics.

How long can face swelling last while on an antibiotic after a root canal?

How long can face swelling last while on an antibiotic after a root canal?

It all depends: Swelling after a root canal should be a very rare occurence, and should be monitored very cosely. Antibiotics can be helpful in reducing the swelling, but 3-7 days can be required. You should at least consider that the root canal is ineffective, or did not address the source of the swelling. Request that you be monitored by your dentist that did the root canal or see an endodontist.
