Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more
FBS: I presume you have type 1 diabetes given your age. My apologies if your doctor has said you have type 2 diabetes and he is correct. Very unlikely unless you are substantially overweight. Can you please give me some more information about your diabetes. ...Read more
Diabetes diagnosis: The Hemoglobin A1C test (HbA1c) is a measurement that captures your average glucose over the past 3 months. There is no official "set point" for diagnosis of diabetes using HbA1c as it is usually used by the doctor together with other tests, however generally those with HbA1c of 6.5% or higher are at a higher risk of diabetes-related complications such as diabetic retinopathy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My blood test results:
total bilirubin: 1.41 h
ast: 40 h
alt: 100 h
total alk phosphatase: 43 l
serum total protein: 7.1
e.R. Said hepatitis?
Let's try this...: I have only a little bit of the story you've shared. Perhaps it's time to see whether the ast and alt get back to normal after two weeks off alcohol and any not-totally-necessary meds you may be taking. If so, this is the start of a healthier life after alcohol. If not, the workup for virus infections, iron overload, wilson's, autoimmunity & need for exercise can begin. Good luck. ...Read more

I am a t2 diabetic taking insulin. A1c 6.2; 55 yrs old. What does a fasting c-peptide result of 3.4 indicate? Am i making normal levels of insulin?
Yes: We need to see the blood sugar level at the time the c-peptide of 3.1 was drawn but in general, this is a good and adequate level. This means that your body is still producing and releasing its own insulin. It means that you are a type 2 diabetic and not close to being a type 1 yet if ever. ...Read more

None of the findings are diagnostic of a disease, except, that blood sugar suggests a pre-diabetic state. It is best to discuss the results and treatment with the doctor who ordered the tests. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
