How does fasting cause hypoglycemia?

It should not: When your pancreas and liver are functioning properly, fasting should not cause hypoglycemia. Fasting glucose 36mg/dl w/ fainting spells, after meal 82mg/dl, A1c 5.5 (math err?). Can a 8mm adrenal cyst cause hypoglycemia? Also-abd pain, acnes.

You don't: Have hypoglycemia after meals, as it's not a disease and doesn't exist in the absense of diabetes medication, cancer, end-stage liver or kidney disease, GI surgery, etc. If it's a finger-stick it's not accurate in that range. No: In my 35 years of practice, I have never seen a case of reactive hypoglycemia. The disorder doesn't exist, if you're overweight the symptoms are a natural response to your glucose level returning to normal. Don't waste your money on a GTT or any fad diets of treatments. Lose wt if heavy. Remember, glucose meters are not very accurate in the low normal to hypoglycemic ranges. ...Read more

Doesn't mean much: Independent of a concomitant glucose an Insulin level doesn't mean much. If blood sugar is high, low, or normal with an Insulin level of 8 uu/ml, the interpretation is completely different. ...Read more
