Any side effects to taking Tums (calcium carbonate) every day?

Yes: Too many tums (or other antacids containing calcium carbonate) over an extended period of time can lead to "milk alkali syndrome" in which there are high levels of calcium in the blood & a shift in the body's acid-base balance towards alkaline. This can lead to calcium deposits in the kidneys & other tissues as well as kidney stones. Limit calcium intake to 1500 mg/day in divided doses. ...Read more

Is pepcid (famotidine) safe for everyday use? Thinking of switching from prilosec to pepcid (famotidine)

Is pepcid (famotidine) safe for everyday use? Thinking of switching from prilosec to pepcid (famotidine)

Pepcid (famotidine) long term: short answer - yes but my concern is given you age - why are you requiring either a proton pump inhibitor (prilosec) or an H2 blocker (pepcid) on a regular basis?? Assuming you have a medical condition requiring acid suppression - long term use may be appropriate. However, if you are taking it without a clear diagnosis - you need to be seen and evaluated to determine what is wrong. ...Read more

I started taking Plavix once a day and I also take Prevacid (lansoprazole) and on occasion Prilosec. Is there any interactions with these drugs?

This process of activation is blocked by proton oump inhibitors. Specifically with nexium and prilosec, also somewhat with other ppis. The only one safe to use is dexilant (dexlansoprazole) and possibly protonix. Or change plavix to effient or brilinta under guidance of MD ...Read more
