Urinalysis showed positive for Nitrites in urine?

UTI

Urine
Bacteria that cause a urinary tract infection (UTI) make an enzyme that changes urinary nitrates to nitrites. Nitrites in urine show a UTI is present.

Is there any medical reason for an abnormally large number of false positives for benzodiazepines on urine drug screens?

Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepine
Nope. But remember Benzos can stay positive in the urine for six weeks. One false positive is occasionally seen, but not repeated testing.

Urinalysis in Dr.s office, blood and puss in urine! Had it cultured, no infection! What is going on??

Irritation - ask Dr.

Blood
While infection accounts for pus cells in urine 98-99% of the time, it's not the only reason. Bodies typically respond to an irritation of tissues by an inflammatory response manifested by an increase in the blood flow to the area, slight tissue swelling, and an extra white blood cells to combat the irritation. Thus, any cause of inflammation in the urinary system may increase blood cells & pus.

Urinalysis showed atypical cells in urine. No symptoms, only back pain. What does that mean? Could that be cancer?

At your age

Painful_urination
I would recommend an ultrasound of the kidneys ASAP followed by contrast CT scan for any abnormalities. Ultrasound is quick, non-invasive and without risk combined with a significant amount of information potential. Atypical cells on urinalysis require radiographic investigation.

Dr. Ed Friedlander answered:

Does IgA nephropathy always cause blood in urine when you are having colds?is hematuria always present in urinalysis?

It well may

Bergers_disease
IgA nephropathy ranges from trivial to serious. I'm glad you had the diagnosis made successfully. It may flare whenever there is a musocal infection, since IgA is the antibody that's most typically found there.

Dr. Chris S. Hayes answered:

I have frequent urination, negative urinalysis, blood in urine and some leakage, no pain while urinating What could cause these symptoms?

Many possible causes

Blood
If you have blood in your urine I wouldn't call it a negative urinalysis. Your symptoms could be caused by a number of conditions of the urinary or genital tract, including kidney or bladder cancer, stones, interstitial cystitis, even a sexually transmitted disease. I recommend that you see your doctor for more testing.

My dad is age 70. He has left flank pain, blood in urine, constipation. His pcp prescribed Cipro even tho urinalysis came back neg for WBC.help!?

See a urologist.

Cipro
For now, I would not discontinue the medication as prescribed, as there might be other information that indicates infection. Hopefully a urine culture was sent, which will confirm the diagnosis. Blood in the urinary tract should be evaluated, however, and I recommend seeing a urologist who can perform a full evaluation with history, physical exam, and urine testing.

Toddler has high WBC in urine after high fever 5 days. Culture no bacteria. Not on antibiotic until after urinalysis. Still having symptoms. Cause?

How toddler feels...

Fever
High WBC in UA with high fever reasonably to consider UTI regardless the no positive finding of u-culture and renal ultrasound. How is toddler general well-being and growth? It this his/her first bout? How does he/she pee, emptying well? Clinically, it's reasonable to finish a one-wk course of antibiotics and watch. Of course, work closely with the attending doctor. Best wishes...
