In vitro fertilization is an assisted reproductive technology. Ivf is a procedure used to treat fertility problems and assist with the conception of a child. During ivf mature eggs are retrieved from the ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. A few days later, the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs are implanted into the uterus. One cycle of in vitro fertilization ...Read more

IVF and pregnancy: Two weeks after the egg retrieval should be the time to find out if you are pregnant. Still, some of the hormones used to support the luteal phase may cause you to feel pregnant. The HCG test after the transfer will be the most precise way to tell if things worked. ...Read more

I'm 5 weeks and 2 days pregnat by IVF and have no symptoms. Is this normal? When should I start feeling symptoms?
Congratulations!!!: I am sure it has been a long, anxiety-provoking period to get the ivf-pregnancy and you probably want to feel that. Some people feel the effect as early as 1-2 wks, others may not have any symptoms at all beside missing the period and the belly getting bigger etc. I am sure you have regular follow up with the specialist and you should be fine. A again, congrats and best of luck to you.. ...Read more
Mostly like natural: I'm not certain I understand what you're asking, but pregnancy symptoms are related to the pregnancy not how you got that way. In other words, if you account for possible multiples, and for the fact that ovaries are stimulated in ivf, the symptoms are the same as in a natural pregnancy. ...Read more
None: Usually at 5 weeks of pregnancy or 3 weeks after your egg retrieval you may not have any symptoms at all from the pregnancy itself. Most symptoms at this time, if any, are due to the ivf. The range of symptoms can vary widely for reasons that are not well understood. So no symptoms to lots of symptoms can all be normal. If you have any concerns please let your doctor know. Good luck! ...Read more
Nausea most common: 2 weeks after ivf would make you 4 weeks pregnant. So nausea is the most common symptom. In general you should not feel anything still from the ivf with 2 exceptions. Some women can still have enlarged ovaries which can cause discomfort. And some women can be overstimulated which can cause bloating. But in general you should feel like a normal early pregnant women with some aches and pains. ...Read more
Can't start IVF as high baseline E2 (275 pmol/L). What causes this? Also have low FAI & many symptoms of oestrogen dominance, no help from consultant!
Only 400 words!: Your E2 of 275 is too high for a good start, and it's appropriate to wait: success rates are poor if you don't. This happens if there is a persistent functional cyst at the intended start date. Some docs in the US will "aspirate" the cyst and start anyway. The concept of "estrogen dominance" is really not based on any science, mostly just a layman idea, I wouldn't worry about it. Good wishes. ...Read more

Maybe none: The symptoms of pregnancy vary from woman to woman. Some have many symptoms and others have none. Nausea, vomiting, bloating, tiredness, urinary frequency are some common symptoms. Ivf can have exactly the same symptoms. Important: if you have no symptoms, you can still have a very normal pregnancy. Do not stop medication until your pg test is negative and your doc stops them! Hi 5 weeks pregnant after IVF no any symptoms except constipation and getting more hungrier is that normal please help me I'm so nervous.
Ultrasound: It seems it would really be helpful for you to get an ultrsound in 2 weeks. At that point, you might start to see something, a little gestational sac, for instance. It's hard, and nervewracking, but so long as you are eating healthy, getting rest, decreasing stress and exercising, then all you can do at this point is wait. It's normal to have no symptoms at this point in pregnancy. ...Read more

I am constipated from Gonal F (follitropin alfa) use for IVF treatment. Benefiber and hydration are not relieving the symptoms. Only 3 very small BMs in 7 days. Help!
Try this: Buy Fiber One ("the original" as it says on the box). Look at the nutritional information. It will say "14 grams of fiber per serving" which is 1/2 cup. Eat 1 cup every day. You can mix in other, more tasty cereals, or fruit to improve palatability. If you do this most every day, your constipation will improve and resolve after a few days. ...Read more

I'm 5 weeks pregnant by ivf. My breasts were tender, but now they are normal. Do symptoms come and go? Are ivfers more prone to miscarry?
Yes and Maybe: Pregnancy symptoms like breast tenderness or nausea can change over time, and symptoms can decrease but the pregnancy is still healthy. Miscarriage risk may be increased depending on your age (higher risk in older women) and the reason for ivf. Diminished ovarian reserve (low egg supply) increases the risk of miscarriage at any age, compared with tubal problems/ male factor. Follow up with your md. ...Read more

TV u/s at 6w6d (Ivf)1st scanner showed us hb but said foetal pole was unclear. Dr scanned and said he wasn't sure there was either. Is there any hope?
IVF?: Does Ivf mean in vitro fertilization. If so, then you are under the care of a fertility specialist, and should ask that doctor the question. In general, at 7 weeks a definite IUP can be seen w/ TV US. I would want to know if a yolk sac was seen and the size of the gestational sac, given that no fetal pole could be seen. Its complicated. Please do consult the doc who ordered the ultrasound. ...Read more
What is IVF?
Good Question!!!: Ivf stands for in vitro fertilization. Normally fertilization takes place in the female body after intercourse, specifically in the fallopian tube, which picks up the egg from the ovary. So conception in the body is "in vivo" fertilization. In vitro fertilization just means fertilization takes place outside of the body-in a test tube or petri dish. So ivf babies are also known as test tube babies. ...Read more
