I had root canal, I suppose I'm fine. There was no other facial swelling. It's only a small abscess too. And would this tooth need to be extracted now?
I have a lot of pain and facial swelling from a root canal retreat. I was given penicillin v and metronidazole. When will the swelling go down?
Typically 3-7 days: Most advanced dental infections will take at least 2-3 days for antibiotics to start to have a positive effect. Depending on the progression and nature of the infection, this can take longer. One way to "get the upper hand" is to have a dentist make an incision and drain the swelling and greatly reduce the bacterial load. Facial swellings should be monitored as they can become quite serious.See 3 more doctor answers
I had a root canal two days ago however, I noticed this morning that I have some facial swelling and bruising under my eye. Is this normal?
Possibly: Possibly over manipulation of the canal, but could residual infection or simply the the original infection not yet responding to treatment yet. Time to see you DDS.See 2 more doctor answers
I have symptoms of sinusitis with mild facial swelling. A year ago, I had a root canal on the same side on the upper molar number two with a crown placed. That tooth is tender now. What could be the cause of swelling, tooth or sinus? I am not sure whom to
Dentist First: From you history, I would start with the root canal tooth, then work from there. It is possible, given your timeline, that the root canal possibly failed, and the infection recurred. If so, treatment is necessary and may allow you to still save the tooth. It is possible it's a sinus infection, but my first guess would be the rct tooth. You want a "pa x-ray", digital if possible, or ct scan.See 4 more doctor answers
After having root canal more than a week ago, I still feel minor swelling in the face. Overall, I feel so much better. Is the swell time common?
Not usually: A week is a little bit too long in my opinion., I guess the better question would be was it swollen prior to your root canal? Root canals remove the inflamed or infected nerve, artery and vein in the tooth. Afterwards it is hermetically sealed by the filling material which ensures a good deal and prevents bacteria from circulating to and from the tooth through the passages to the tooth.See 1 more doctor answer
If Successful: If the root canal procedure has successfully removed the problem pulp tissue and sealed the tooth's canals, your body's immune system shoud be able to resolve the swelling. If the swelling doesn't resolve, antibiotics may be indicated or re-evaluation of the problem and/or treatment.See 1 more doctor answer
It all depends: Swelling after a root canal should be a very rare occurence, and should be monitored very cosely. Antibiotics can be helpful in reducing the swelling, but 3-7 days can be required. You should at least consider that the root canal is ineffective, or did not address the source of the swelling. Request that you be monitored by your dentist that did the root canal or see an endodontist.

Root canal today severe swelling of the right side of my face, my eye is badly swollen, I've no pain and am on antibiotics, how long before swelling?
Endodontist: The endodontist who performed your root canal is best qualified to answer your question, but I don't feel that these reactions are out of the ordinary and the swelling may last a few days. However I recommend that you notify the doctor of your current status and whether he/she recommends cold applications to control facial swelling.See 3 more doctor answers
