Plastic Surgery And Facial Injuries/Disorders
Are dermatologists essentially non surgical plastic surgeons (of the face/skin)? Just wondering, thanks.
There : There is much crossover between certain specialties especially dermatology and plastic surgery. Your question is a bit of an over simplification. In general there is some truth to it, but it is complicated. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons both specialize in the skin, both can treat the entire body (not just the face) and both provide non-surgical as well as surgical treatments. However, in general, dermatology is primarily a medical specialty whereas plastic surgery is primarily a surgical specialty. Hope that helps to clarify. ...Read moreSee 6 more doctor answers

Can cosmetic plastic surgeons use skin glue for a mid-face lift, as opposed to sutures, that may produce more scarring?
Yes.: Skin glue can definitely be used to close almost all incisions that we do cosmetically. It's unclear which produces more scarring (skin glue vs. Stitches), however a general rule is permanent (non-dissolving) stitches should be removed as early as possible. ...Read moreSee 8 more doctor answers

Why will some plastic surgeons continue to do procedures on patients who have clearly taken the procedures to a deformity level? Is it ethical?
Certification Matter: Not all cosmetic procedures are performed by board certified plastic surgeons. The american board of plastic surgery selects its members on the basis, of ethics, safety, and appropriate management of complications among other things. Unfortunately the us government does not impose this standard on all physicians. So anyone with a medical license can do cosmetic procedures. Certification matters. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Why do some plastic surgeons offer high volume liposuction, for weight reduction, while others say its not for weight reduction, why the discrepancy?
Not for weight loss: Liposuction is a contouring procedure, not a weight loss procedure. But some doctors out there do market to the "quick fix mentality... I don't agree with that. Here in florida, we're actually limited by law to 4 liters of fat removal as a maximum, in an outpatient setting. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Are dermatologists that perform facelifts also plastic surgeons? Is there a plastic surgeon degree?
Surgery vs. Surgeon: A "plastic surgery" is a surgery meant to change the appearance of the face. A (facial) plastic surgeon is a doctor who has undergone a surgical bresidency training program. I would recommend seeking a facelift surgeon who is board certified by the american board of facial plastic & reconstructive surgery (abfprs) or the american board of plastic surgery (abps). Review their work & ask questions. ...Read moreSee 8 more doctor answers
