HSV-1: The incubation period (time between exposure and symptoms) of the HSV virus that causes cold sores is 2-12 days, but most people develop the sore within the first week. If the bump turns into a painful blister or an ulcer, it is most likely a cold sore caused by the herpes virus, but it is unclear if you caught it from the person you kissed.

Herpetic conjunctiva: If you have any symptoms suggestive of eye irritation would see an ophthalmologist asap. Herpes involving the conjunctivae can cause severe damage and needs to be treated. Never fool with your vision. Too precious.

Are there any side effects from surgery to reduce gummy smile? I'd like to have surgery to fix my gummy smile, but I'm concerned about any side effects, and particularly if my face and upper lip might look different after the procedure. Is this something

Are there any side effects from surgery to reduce gummy smile? I'd like to have surgery to fix my gummy smile, but I'm concerned about any side effects, and particularly if my face and upper lip might look different after the procedure. Is this something

There: There are many questions on the forum regarding correction of a "gummy smile". The question is, do you mean a recontouring of the gingival tissue around the necks of your teeth to make them look a bit longer (bigger) or do you mean your teeth are of the correct size and shape for your face, but when you smile, you see alot of the gum tissue above the teeth? Dr. Mcleod best answered the first scenario. You would be doing that procedure if you felt your teeth were too small (height wise). It is not that invasive and there are very few complications. Regarding the second scenario, changing the hight of your maxilla is a major surgical procedure, performed by a team of doctors including oral surgeons. This surgery can change your face and lips, and there are complications including teeth becoming non-vital and nerve damage. These risks will be explained to you by your surgeons. I hope I have not confused you. It may be best to discuss this with the dentist/periodontist you chose to consult with.

See physician: The nerves that supply sensation are different than the nerves that supply motor function in this region. See your physician or neurologist. An MRI may be in order depending on the complete history and physical exam.
