Taking z-pac for cold/cough and w/in 3 hrs developed pink eye. Used ofloxicin from prev condition and 12 hrs later hives red rash on back gone in 2 hr?

Taking z-pac for cold/cough and w/in 3 hrs developed pink eye. Used ofloxicin from prev condition and 12 hrs later hives red rash on back gone in 2 hr?

Virus vs reaction?: Most colds and coughs don't need antibiotics. You may well have a virus, and the Zpak will not speed your recovery if so. Unless the prescriber told you bacteria are likely present due to high fever or white count, or exam. Eye drops do not remain sterile after opened, and should be discarded. This is why! Check back with your doctor if symptoms get worse or do not get better. ...Read more

14 mnth baby - rash, hives, some swelling after amoxicillin. Gave 2 doses prednisone at night, & benadryl (diphenhydramine). Today, swelling in feet, ear, eye. Normal?

Ear infection?: Most toddlers ear and upper respiratory infections are viral, and will resolve on their own by treating the symptoms-humidifier, saline spray...Vs having to deal with the side effects of an antibiotic allergy. Especially when the abx don't help at all. After two doses of pred and benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and there is still swelling..Back to the doc with you! might need to go to allergist after this is all over. ...Read more

Began suffering from hives, and can a new watchband cause this, even though the rashes are not on the watch arm, but the legs and trunk?

Watchband reactions: Reactions to watchbands tend to be related to the presence of nickel in the band. What causes rashes/hives?

What causes rashes/hives?

Immune system alert: For some reason (often it is mysterious even with best efforts to identify the agent) some people's immune systems go into an emergency alert mode and send out defensive weapons to protect you from what it feels as a threat. Unfortunately, it usually is an over-reaction and causes more problems for you. If your dr agrees - a daily benedryl may help. Be ready with an epi-pin & 911 for emergency! ...Read more
