A chronic irritation of the eyelids, which causes redness and matting of the eyelids. It has a variety of causes, ranging from allergy and infection to irritation, as well as skin cancers. It is the most common eye disease.

Dry eyes n blepharitis. Seen 2 eye doc. Always give FML, (fluorometholone) lubricants. Sick of frequent eye inflammation, use eye drops daily n clean eyelid. Any cure?

The short answer is: yes, you can treat the blepharitis with a variety of treatments. The American Academy of Ophthalmology advises a variety of treatments depending upon the etiology (cause) of your blepharitis. This can range from eyelid hygiene with OTC lid scrubs or baby shampoo, to topical and even oral antibiotic treatment. See an eyeMD: Neomycin and polymixin B target gram negative bacteria and are not very good against gram positive bacteria. Blepharitis is a disease of gram positive bacteria. Neomycin is also very toxic and can cause allergic and toxic dermatitis over time. Could be both: Both allergy and blepharitis can cause chronically recurrent lid swelling. However, blepharitis is more common to cause the problem overnight. Allergy would tend to be a problem all of the time (with severe itching too), unless you are allergic to pillow case, detergent, etc. Blepharitis can respond to warm compresses, lid cleaning, and eye ointments, while allergy responds to oral antihistamines. ...Read more

Need more time: I would continue warm compresses and scrubs twice daily. It just takes longer to improve than just a few days. If it does not respond, i would recommend seeing an eye doctor. ...Read more

Gently: Baby shampoo is recommended solely because it has less potential to irritate the eye. To wash the lid, use your ordinary facial wash, dry it off and then rub the baby shampoo into the lash line using the edge of a wash cloth or a cotton tip applicator. Then rinse and dry and apply ointments or eyedrops if recommended by your ophthalmologist. ...Read more

It : It is unusual for blepharitis to cause any pain. Usually redness, irritation, grittiness, itching and tearing are part of that problem. Pain is usually caused by a stye forming or if the skin is so inflamed from the blepharitis that it is starting to crack or peel.
