Hi doctors. I have problem waking up in the morning with pain in my right eye. I'm a heavy smoker and does it have anything to do with my eye pain.?
Yes, : Smoking can irritate the surface of the eyes and also cause the tear film to evaporate causing a state of dry eye. When the eyes dry out, the corneal surface can break down causing pain. So give up smoking, use artificial tears, and buy a humidifier and this may alleviate some of the pain. Not normal or ideal: Ideally if it were up to me no one would have headaches or eye pain. There are many causes that are possible, although in your case eye strain first springs to mind. Therefore, you should see an eye doctor also called an Opthamologist and also see a Neurologist for a thorough evaluation and examination which will likely include a MRI,for further evaluation of the headaches.
